  • Coach Sherman Whalen Inks Deal With Phoenix

The Phoenix Ghostriders organization made their second critical hire of the offseason. The team hired Head Coach Sherman Whalen. This is the next piece of the new look Ghostriders. The organization brought in GM Tarcone right before the OSFL champioship game. Tarcone vowed to "shake things up and bring in some new blood." He fired Terrance MacLean after the champioship game and began pursuing Whalen, who was coaching n the college ranks at the University of Iowa. Whalen, who is only 40, was the hottest coaching prospect in the nation. After 6 consecutive 10 win seasons and back to back national championships, Whalen decided to make the move to the professional ranks. He becomes the youngest head coach in the league.
Whalen gave this statement to the media "I was looking for the right situation to come before I would leave Iowa. I loved eveything about Iowa and will continue to support the University. But the Phoenix organization hired my close friend, Tarcone. I knew if he thought this was a promising situation, then it has to be. That is what helped make my decision. The team is young and full of piss. That is one of my main prerequisites in jumping to the OSFL. I want young, hungry guys. I see a core of that type of player in Phoenix. I can't wait to get the player acquisition part of the offseason started."
Coach Whalen has decided to keep Offensive Coordinator Eddie McClellan, stating " Eddie is a great coach. He will bring an exciting brand of football to Phoenix." Whalen also keeps Defensive Coordinator K.C. Brandon, saying " K.C. Is a rough, hard-nosed, intelligent guy. I want that type of guy leading my defense."
The Phoenix coaching staff averages 42 years of age.
The front office and coaching staffs are in meetings in Phoenix preparing for the offseason.
