  • OSFL's Greatest Rivalry?

Memphis/Utah- These two teams have met in the last 3 AC championship games and are on track to meet in their 4th in a row. Utah leads the series 4-3 but 2 of those wins were in the AC Championship. The rivalry features arguably the best player in the OSFL, RB Kenyon Heflin, two star QBs in Van Locthefeld and Dusty Cowell and countless numbers of All Pros.

Morgantown/Columbus -The OSFL is clearly a QB centric league and this rivalry features perhaps the league's greatest QB in Corey Lincoln and perhaps its most underrated in Floyd Cosby. Their rivalry is split 5-5 and the only knock is that these two teams have never met in the playoffs. Every game these two teams play is a absolute shootout and fun to watch.

Washington/Portland - The reason this is a top rivalry isnt because of the record between the teams (Washington leads 7-3). It isnt a championship pedigree (Neither team has won a championship). It isnt even the talent on each team (decent but doesnt compare to the top teams). Its because of the owners. Pat and Acid seem to relish in beating each other more than any other teams. I'm tempted to throw Anchorage in the rivalry because of the games they have had against Portland and Washington.

Washington vs. Portland is a good one also because of locations. Portland to Seattle is 3 hours apart. That is about a close as you can get in professional sports in the North West. And it is true, losing to Acid is the worst thing to happen in the league, and he has owned the series....but as much of a rivalry as it is, can you really call it a rivalry when one team (Washington) has never even made it to the post-season?

With that said, I think Anchorage vs. Portland might be a better rivalry. In 2006 Portland won the division. In 2007 and 2008 Anchorage won. In 2009 Portland won. It has gone back and forth. In 2006 the teams met in the AC Conference Championship. This season, the 2-14 Phantoms won two games, one of which was a late season win essentially knocking the Anchorage Gladiators out of playoff contention. That was the high point of my season, and the low point of his I'm sure. And as much as I hate losing to Acid, losing to Anchorage is a close 2nd.

But really, you can mix and match any of the AC North and it is a great rivalry. All original owners. All active. Three teams have won the division and twice has had wild card winners. Kalispel now owns division bragging rights. This division just loves to beat each other up. POR vs. WAS is a rivalry. POR vs. ANC. ANC vs. KAL.

HOWWWEVAA....my vote goes to Memphis/Utah. While the owners have changed over the years, the teams are top notch. Potentially four straight AC Championship game match-ups? That reminds me of Dallas vs. San Fransisco in the early 90s or the 2000s of Colts vs. Patriots.

Don't be a dick just because I dominated you in the last week of the season.

        I'm not.

I'm being a dick because you beat me twice this season. 35-0 and 41-10.

        Gross. 76-10?!

Those were both without Sammy Slade.

So in reality I would have only beaten you 76-24 or something like that.

Memphis didn't hold up our end of the deal this year, but just to be asses and keep up the rivalry we will cheer on Lake County to take out Utah in the championship game.
