Ladies and Gentlemen,
Thank you for coming. This past season has been a good one for the South Maryland Jaguars and one we hope to build on in the coming years.
After taking the team over this past preseason, we've spent quite a bit of time talking to our fans to see how they feel about the team, and changes they would or would not like to see. It's the beginning of the fresh start we promised when taking over the franchise, and a promise we've stuck with by setting up a fan board to keep ownership and management aware of what is really important to those who feel the ups and downs of the franchise as keenly as we do.
It became apparent early on that there was a certain amount of resentment amongst much of the fan base. Our games are played in Baltimore, most of our fans (the best fans in the league, we feel) live and work in Baltimore, and they felt that the regional name, inclusive as it is, never really captured the spirit of the fans and the city.
We agreed, and it was decided early in the season that the franchise would be renamed from South Maryland to Baltimore. However, the Baltimore Jaguars just didn't have quite the ring that we felt it should, so a fan vote was instituted to decide a new mascot for the team. It was felt strongly that there needed to be a tie to the previous team, so the blue and gold will stay as the team colors. And now, after this successful season, the votes are in.
We are very pleased to announce that the former South Maryland Jaguars will be now and forever known as the Baltimore Bulls. The north and south end zones will be known as the Bullpen.
