  • 2011 Draft Question of the Day

If you had a pick between the 5th and 7th round, who do you think will be that ONE "diamond in the rough?"

    Pick: #176

    Jonathan Hailey(C), 6'3" 289lbs-Louisville

-Jonathan looks to have the talent to be a starting center in this league. He was "very underrated" by my scout despite a very average combine across the board. I look forward to seeing what he becomes.

The Portland Phantoms had four 5th round selections, a 6th and a 7th. And sure, just like everyone else, I like all my picks, but I will pick one defensive and one offensive "diamond in the rough."

      5.11 DT Myron Maloney
      -10th fastest 40 time, a blue score
-Tied for the best sole score
-8th strongest, two reps from a blue score
-Agility and broad jump scores were just average
-Average size and average weight for a DT at 6'3 304

He should be great at rushing the passer. Great fit for a DT rotation. Smart, strong, and fast. Sounds good to me.

      5.17 OT Wesley Threats
-3rd fastest 40, a RED score, (no guards in the entire draft had a score this high)
-Tied for 9th best sole score, a RED score
-His strength, agility and broad jump were all average.
-Below average height and weight for a T

I mention how he ranks compared to the guards in this draft because I think Threats is a better fit at guard than he is at tackle. His blocking strength, pass blocking, and endurance will all be average at best, but he should be a phenomenal run blocker and he is really smart.

            Well not that late but
            3-19 Lester Cobb QB
All we lack for a championship run is a QB

Herb Nikolaus is not the man, Aaron Barrett has possible hidden talents or maybe Lester "TY" Cobb can be that man

From 5-7 it's gotta be one of the QB's. There were QB's available with adj. ratings and combines better in the fifth round that would have been taken in the 3rd round in previous years. For a non QB, the sleeper is the TE Pat took, Tracy Narcisse. He is a total scrub on the line, but he is going to be a beast of a recieving TE.

I totally agree. This crop of QBs went much deeper than years past. The guy I got at 4.31, Julio Oliver, looks like he could really turn out to be something good. His developed percentage is pretty low at 12%, but I think in a year or two, he might be starter quality. It looks like he can make every throw except the deep ball. I'm really excited to see how he rates out.

Yeah, and I love Narcisse. I didn't scout any of the TEs going into the draft, but with all mine being 9-10 year vets, I had planned to draft one in the later rounds. Narcisse was the #1 TE on my board.

FB Trent Farmer went 7-9. He will be my starter and looks to add a lot to the passing game and the goal line offense

Along the same lines, at 5.24 I picked up QB Rico Pinto, who could possibly be a successor to Floyd Cosby. I wasn't even planning on picking up a QB, but with a 12 year vet and so much QB talent in this draft, it seemed like the perfect opportunity. We'll see how it pans out.

I was hoping to snag Pinto myself. Interested to see how he turns out.
