  • (Discussion) Conditional Picks

A common practice in the NFL:

    Team A send X player,

Team B send Y Draft pick, which can turn to A or B pick if player exceeds / doesn't meet expectations.

I am happy to monitor and adjust picks accordingly, as GMs agreed. This will be voluntary, all GMs won't have to use it if they don't want to. Also it would be good to add another dimension to trading and separate the OSFL from other leagues.

    Thoughts?

I like it. I think it makes for fair trades.

Indeed, also makes a "middle" ground more easy to find between 2 GMs with 2 different perceptions of value about 1 player...

i have used this type of trade in another league. There was not issue and the deal was made much quicker to both parties satisfaction.
A key note: Any condition agreed upon should be clear and easily discernible by both parties.

I think it's a good idea, should have a seperate forum thread from the regular trades.

Good point. It would be good to have a sepereate thread because sometimes the conditions get forgotten about.

If we don't have any objections in some SIMs we will go for it starting the next season.

I do not know if a separate forum is needed. I did it in the USFL and all I did was post in the thread that dealt with the trade and the other GM quickly confirmed it.

                    Trade Proposed
                    -----------
                    CONDITIONS OF THE TRADE

                    Newark Trade:

                    DE Phillip Frederick

                    Orlando Trade:
                    G Clifton Lai
                    3.26
                    5.21

                    Conditional Pick
2045 (2nd): If Orlando plays in at least Championship Game or Bowl
2045 (3rd): If Orlando makes the playoffs
2045 (5th): If Orlando has a winning season and does not make the playoff.
No conditional pick if Frederick is injured and misses more than 8 games.

Orlando played in the Championship game. Frederick played in every game I believe.
Frederick was veteran players (10+ years). He was still performing at a very high level. A deal was difficult without a conditional pick. He didn't have a 4th round pick and He wasn't happy giving a third. I added the 2nd in the event of a Championship, because if I was him, I would be happy if I made it that far.

My reminder, took the deal and I highlighted the areas that was achieved.

                      So he surrended an OG + 3rd + 5th + conditional pick?

If I am reading this right it looks like the Guard, 3.26, 5.21 and a 2nd in 2045.

I think that having a seperate "Conditional Trades" thread would help with organization. After the conditions are met and the trade is fully completed then the commish could move the trade to the "Trades" thread.

As long as it isnt like the episode of the league where Kevin has to GM on paper when the server is down. Shark does enough to keep this league running.

I think its a great idea to do conditional draft picks...has been discussed around our water cooler many times.
