  • 2011 Week 3 OSFL Wrap-up

    Week 3

    Top Five

    1. Phoenix Riders (3-0) - PR 86 - W 34-13 over Port City Steam - LW #1
The Riders win by 21 points on the road when their offense doesn't bring anything close to their best game. Quarterback Lorenzo Kaplan threw three interceptions. Runningback Fernando Perkins failed to get 100 rushing yards despite 28 carries. The defense however gave up only 189 yards of total offense and paved the way for this win. Oh, and the player of the game, was the Riders center J.B. Mahon. Next week the (1-2) Ohio Valley Showboats come to town. Good luck.

    2. Baltimore Bulls (3-0) - PR 81 – W 37-21 over Columbus Catfish - LW #5
Do you guys know who Gabe Mathews is? No? Well he is having the best season of any quarterback in the entire OSFL. The 10th year QB is carrying the Bulls to the top of the league. In the 37-21 win over Columbus he threw for 236 yards and four touchdowns, and he still has yet to throw his first interception of the season. Next week the Bulls are home against the (1-2) Pearl Harbor Defenders. Baltimore is favored by nine...

    3. Yuma Aces (1-1) - PR 71 – W 24-20 over North Liberty Enforcers – LW #4
Yuma survived four interceptions, six penalties, nothing from the running game and a missed field goal in cruising to the four-point win over North Liberty. After leading 24-10 early in the 3rd quarter, the Aces put it in cruise control. DE Danny Kovel was the player of the game accounting for 2.5 sacks and 8 tackles. Next week Yuma are at (2-1) San Fransisco. The spread for the game is even. Yuma must prove their worth.

    4. Memphis Admirals (2-1) - PR 80 - L 14-27 to Lake County Xtreme – LW #2
The Admirals were dominated this week. Lake County had control of the game from the first score on. They almost had a 2:1 ration on time of possession. Memphis failed to get the running game going only amounting 44 yards. Lake County is no slouch, everyone knew this was a tough road game. I think the Admirals will bounce back next week hosting the (2-1) Anchorage Gladiators.

    5. Dakota Totems – (2-1) PR 87 - W 27-17 over Brooklyn Hitmen - LW NR
Welcome to the top five Dakota! Attention league members...quarterback Roy Parrish is the real deal. The third year QB completed 23/29 for 225 yards and ran six times for 37 yards, including two third-quarter touchdowns. Next week the Totems travel to Gainesville to face the (2-1) NC South leading Gaels. Can Parrish do it again?

    Bottom One
    1. Portland Phantoms - PR 35 - L 10-24 to Punxsutawney Phils
I was actually favored in this game...So I benched former starting QB Damon Bishop in a desperation move. New starter Henry Andrews throws five interceptions. I am doubled in time of possession. I have 12 penalties for 85 yards at home! And the #1 overall pick is knocked out for the next three weeks with a pulled calf muscle. Next week the Phantoms are back on the road to face the (2-1) Waco Warhawks. Waco is favored by six.

    Game of the Week
This weeks game of the between Memphis and Lake County was a bit of a snoozer. While the game did have a big impact, moving both teams to 2-1, it wasn't filled with too much excitement. Xtreme QB Nick Pipkin lead his team to a 2nd consecutive victory by throwing for 297 yards and two touchdowns.

Next weeks game of the week is between the (2-1) Kalispel Stags and the (2-1) New Orleans Stingrays. The home team, New Orleans, is favored by three. Stingrays QB Ellis Wynn is having a career year so far and will be key for a New Orleans win. The strength of the Kalispel defense is the secondary. The Stags defense will have to keep this game close and try to avoid a shootout. They are missing one of their best weapons in WR Shane Wilkerson (167 yards, 2 TD).

    Player Spotlights
This weeks offensive spotlight is on Motor City running back Lester Winslet. One of the OSFL's legendary players, Kenneth Clemens retired this off-season leaving a huge hole to be filled in the Mechanics backfield. Winslett beat out Carlos Alexander and Leroy Corbett for the starting spot in camp. Last season Winslet, then a rookie, got four starts and ran for 541 yards. This season he is 17th in the league in rushing with 210 yards. However, he leads the league with a 6.77 ypc average. As good as KC was, maybe we should be giving some credit to the offensive line coach.

This weeks defensive spotlight is on Charlotte Defensive End Sean Griffith. He was the lone bright spot in the Knights 10-23 loss to Pearl Harbor. Griffith, on his 3rd team in four years, had a career game on Sunday. He finished with 4 tackles, 3 sacks. Last season he had 2.5 for the year.

    Extra Points
    1. This is the first week with byes. So don't freak out when your team doesn't play this week.
    2. Go Tampa Bay Rays!

      [QUOTE=Pat;51360Can Nori do it again?
      [/QUOTE]

Not sure, I bet Roy Parrish can though. Decent win for us over Brooklyn, the defense stepped it up and did their part. Looks like we took over the #1 spot in the in-game power rankings. Not sure how those are calculated....

Good call on Winslett. He went 9.22 ypc this week, but in a loss, so it's mindless stats. The kid can run. Us Eastern Michigan guys gotta stick together.

Had Talley not fumbled the ball away we would still be in the top 5. Nice job Pat. Hope your team does not wake up against us though.

                  1) Of course the Power Rating list is wrong. I beat Dakota and have a better record. Of course the game may use the BCS formula.
                  2) Offense hasnt got on track yet. Defense has been dominant without a significant contribution from my DEs.
                  3) WE'RE #1.

Great job. I love these type of features. It is incredibly entertaining and helps me keep tabs on opposing teams.
                  Thanks
