  • 2011 Week 9 OSFL Wrap-up

    Week Nine

    Top Five

    1. Phoenix Riders (7-1) - W 40-15 over Motor City Mechanics - LW #1
Remember when the Phoenix Riders traded four draft choices to the Portland Phantoms for a WR named Sammy Slade? This is why. On Sunday Slade had eight catches for 233 yards and three touchdowns in the 40-15 smashing over Motor City. It wasn't all good news though. Starting DT Donnie Creekmur will miss the next four weeks with a strained patellar tendon. Next week the Riders travel to Utah to face the (4-4) Bees.

    2. Baltimore Bulls (7-1) - Bye Week - LW #2
The Bulls have the #1 offense and the #4 defense. They just rested up during the bye week. There next three opponents, including this weekend against (2-6) Boston, are all sub-.500.

    3. St. Paul Bandits (8-1) - W 37-24 over Gainesville Gaels – LW #3
The Bandits offense flourished on Sunday, taking an early 31-10 halftime lead. With the Dakota Totems losing on Sunday, and falling to (5-3), the Bandits sit very comfortably atop the NC North. Next week St. Paul is on a bye, giving starting RB Rob Cote another week to heal.

    4.Camden Cutters – (7-1) - W 26-24 over San Fransisco Bayhawks - LW #4
Sure, the Cutters almost blew a 13-point fourth quarter lead, but they still beat a very good Bayhawks team in San Fransisco. The Cutters defense intercepted QB Rico Whalen two times, proving to be the difference. Camden hosts (4-4) Yuma next week.

    5. New Orleans Stingrays (7-2) - W 30-16 over Port City Steam - LW #5
The Stingrays offense struggled this week, but the defense and special teams did more than enough. New Orleans is on a bye next week, and then return to face the (4-4) Waco Warhawks.

    Bottom One
    1. Charlotte Knights - L 3-20 to Chicago Reapers
Wow. Even against one of the leagues worst teams, the Knights are still awful. 157 yards of total offense? Three turnovers? Leading rusher had 15 yards? Gross.

    Game of the Week
Yes! Two wins in a row! The Portland/Washington rivalry is great, and Sunday was no different. Lead by a stingy defense, the Phantoms beat the Bombers 10-3. Quarterback Henry Andrews finished the game 12/17 for 141 yards and a touchdown pass. The game also was the debut for 2nd round pick FB/RB Wally Fulton. He finished the game with 16 carries and 59 rushing yards, both leading the team. He also had a nine-yard reception.

Week Tens "Game of the Week" is between two of the leagues most storied franchises. The (4-4) Yuma Aces travel to face the (7-1) Camden Cutters. A very important game for both teams. If Yuma wins, they keep their playoff hopes alive and prove to many doubters that they are in fact a contending team. If Camden wins, they have plenty to argue that they are the leagues best team. The game features the #5 scoring offense (Yuma) against the leagues #1 defense (Camden). Something has to give.

    Player Spotlights
This weeks offensive spotlight is on Porty City Steams Quarterback Sammy Dillon. The third overall pick in the 2011 OSFL Draft has really struggled this season. He is worst in the league in quarterback rating, tied for worst in interceptions, worst in completion percentage and worst in average per attempted pass. On Sunday in the 16-30 loss to New Orleans, the rookie threw four interceptions. Nowhere to go but up.

This weeks defensive spotlight is on Columbus Catfish Linebacker Broderick Pearson. Pearson, playing on his third team in three seasons, had a career game on Sunday. In the 38-7 upset of Dakota, Pearson had three sacks raising his season total to eight and a half. Prior to this season, Pearson had three and a half sacks.

    Extra Points
    1. Don't sleep on Kalispel. The (6-2) Stags have won four straight and are coming off a bye week. Don't be shocked if this team finishes with 11 or 12 wins.
    2. Washington, Los Alamos, Chicago and Brooklyn have all never made the playoffs. The best bet of this group, is the (4-4) Los Alamos Monsters whose next four games are against .500 or better teams. Maybe next year.
    Wilmington Wildcats- 2057-
    Seattle Pilots- 2017-2041
    Washington Bats - 1979-2013

Hope Dillion doesn't wake up his arm this week. He is on pace to run for over 400 yards as a rookie QB. Michael Vick type player who has to leave the dogs alone.
      BLB- Seattle Reign

The bye week couldn't have come at a better time...for me and my team. Only 1 win away from where I was last season. Amazing what lots of time spent at FOF Central can do for your team. It's like the Bill Walsh school of coaching online.

PM Andrew, the site owner and ask him to change it. He added the logo last week but it was uploaded too big.
