  • 2011 Week 13 OSFL Wrap-up

    Week Thirteen

    Top Five

    1. Phoenix Riders (11-1) - W 34-6 over Portland Phantoms - LW #1
Oh, were you expecting someone else? The Riders now stand alone at the top with a league best 11-1 record after dismantling my Portland Phantoms. The AC West is now clinched and the Riders are just playing to keep homefield. Next week is the (7-5) North Liberty Enforcers who just knocked off the Baltimore Bulls. Two huge upsets in a row? I doubt it.

    2. Baltimore Bulls (10-2) - L 7-21 to North Liberty Enforcers - LW #2
Yes they did lose, but I still think this is the 2nd best team in the league. However, this team does have some really tough games coming up. Don't be shocked if Camden (9-3) catches them in the NC East. Next week the Bulls go on the road to play the (7-5) Lake County Xtreme.

    3. St. Paul Bandits (10-2) - W 38-24 over Boston Fighting Irish – LW #3
After losing to Phoenix, the Bandits respond by beating the Fighting Irish. Lead by QB Dusty Galloway and his five touchdown passes, the Bandits offense had no problems. The defense is going to have to play better for this to be a top team. Next week they host the (6-6) Denver Grizzlies.

    4. New Orleans Stingrays (9-3) - W 30-3 over Denver Grizzlies - LW #4
Blowout win over a competitive team. This Stingrays team has been pretty under the radar but don't be shocked if they turn out to be the leagues last team standing. Next week the Stingrays host the (1-11) Charlotte Knights. Should be another blowout win.

    5. Tie - (9-3) Camden Cutters and (9-3) Memphis Admirals
Both teams won. Both teams are impressive. Until one falters, they will be connected.

    Bottom One
    1. Charlotte Knights - L 14-24 to Brooklyn Hitmen
If Quarterback Tom Skeen had not thrown four interceptions, this would of been a win for the Knights. I see maybe one winnable game the rest of the way. Good luck buddy.

    Game of the Week
This weeks "Game of the Week" was a really good game between Lake County and Kalispel. My prediction was whoever aired it out would win the game, when in fact the winning team, Xtreme, didn't even throw for 200 yards. Good match-up. Both teams are still in first place.

Next weeks "Game of the Week" is between the (8-4) San Fransisco Bayhawks and the (7-5) Anchorage Gladiators. San Fransisco is one game up in the NC West and the Gladiators are one game back in the AC North. Should be a battle.

    Player Spotlights
This weeks offensive spotlight is on Utah Bees Quarterback Kenny Gaylor. The 12th year veteran is having a career season. The journeyman signed with the Bees and was handed after the Bees former starter bolted in free-agency. Gaylor has quietly thrown for 2,800 yards, 19 touchdowns, while completing 66% of his passes.

This weeks defensive spotlight is on Punx Phils Defensive Tackle Mike Washington. The former 1st round pick had a career game on Sunday against the Port City Steam. Seven tackles, 2.5 assists, 1 pass block, and 2.5 sacks. Very impressive.

    Extra Points
    1. If the playoffs started today the first round games would be Los Alamos @ Kalispel, New Orleans @ Lake County, Camden @ San Fransisco and Yuma @ Morgantown. Phoenix, Baltimore, Memphis and St. Paul would be on byes.
    2. WR Sammy Slade has scored 8 touchdowns in his last 5 games. My starting QB, Henry Andrews, has 4 TD passes on the entire season. I'm sure he misses Slade.
    Wilmington Wildcats- 2057-
    Seattle Pilots- 2017-2041
    Washington Bats - 1979-2013

We've just got so many big injuries this year. First Siegrist(WR, 70/70), then Baxter(DE, 55/55), then Ackerman(CB, 65/65) who was having an outstanding year), and now May(TE, 65/65). I am actually pretty happy that we're even still in the hunt for the playoffs.

I have a pretty slim chance of keeping up with Phoenix. However, one thing I've learned about this game is that anything is possible with the right personnel and, more importantly, the right GP.

Baltimore Bulldogs - BLB since '84
    - Porter Champs: '92, '93, '97, '98, '01, '03, '06, '08, '12
    - Playoffs: '92, '93, '97, '98, '99, '01, '03, '06, '08, '12, '13, '14, '15, '16
    - Brewmaster's Cup: '01
