  • The Best RB Combo in the OSFL

The race for the most successful team in OSFL history is a tight one. <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:City w:st="on">St Paul</st1:City> has two Stevens Cups but <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Yuma</st1:place></st1:City> has two Stevens Cup appearances and one title. While <st1:City w:st="on">St. Paul</st1:City> has fallen off of the deep end in 2012, <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Yuma</st1:place></st1:City> stands out as the only dominant team this year. One reason for this is perhaps the greatest season for a RB combo ever. RBs Dean “No Fear Boshier” and Richie Gibbons are both on pace to run for over a 1000 yds and have led <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Yuma</st1:place></st1:City> another great season. While they have similar stats, they come from two different places.
    <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
Gibbons was <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Morgantown</st1:place></st1:City>’s 2007 5th round pick out of Rice and an afterthought in the Maniacs offense his first 3 yrs in the league. He picked a great time to breakout in his fourth year which happened to be his contract year. In 2010, he ran for a career high 1016 yds and 7 tds. Many thought that his 2010 output was just a case of Gibbons running hard to earn a big contract. Gibbons argued that 2010 was the first year he started and in his first 3 seasons he showed the ability to be a top back by totaling 19 tds in a backup role. Still, he received very few offers in the 2011 offseason and signed a 2 yr, 3 million dollar deal with <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Yuma</st1:place></st1:City>. Since then he has been fantastic. In spot duty, he has averaged more than 5 yds per carry and is able to step in if starter Boshier is injured.

There is no doubt that “No Fear” Boshier is the starting RB on <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Yuma</st1:place></st1:City>. Few RB have run for over 1200 yds in their first three seasons. Few have run for 16 Tds in their third season. The only thing that may keep him from a 4th straight 1200 yd season is an ab injury in week 2 that knocked him out for a few weeks. One knock on Boshier is that he can be injury probe but the addition of Gibbons softens the blow if he has to miss a game. <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Yuma</st1:City></st1:place> is one of the few teams in the OSFL where the offense is equally as effective with the starting or backup RB. That has to be scary for the rest of the league.

    Wait... wait....

What about the 2006 season that Kenneth Clements and Brendan Moon had??? Come on! 2400 yards and 17 TDs!! I think the list starts there.

Clements carried that team. Clements was responsible for more than 70% of the yds between those two. Boshier and Gibbons are pretty much 50/50 so I'm rolling with the Yuma team.

I've been very impressed with Gibbons because it seems like he always breaks off one or two big chunks a game when we need them. He's been steady and filled in very nicely for Boshier when he went down early in the year - And I think the success of this duo is also due in large part to us having the same starting offensive line for 6 years running now.. And theyre still not very old. The cohesion there must be insane.

I believe it is thanks to the ground game that Jumbo Clements has been able to have his incredible season as well.

All in all, I think we stack up with the best duos - Don't know about number 1 on the list, but it has been a goal of mine since I started playing FOF to try to have 2 1000 yard backs in the same season and it would be cool to see that come to fruition in an MP league. I don't recall for sure whether I ever had it happen in SP.

As usual, McAfee gets overlooked again. The guy has gone over 1000 yards every season except for 2010 when he got hurt. He's 5th all time in rushing as well.

McAfee and Kappers have combined for 1800 yards so far this season following a near 1800 yards last season. Did I mention the 14 rushing TD's combined as well...

Yuma the "only" dominant team in the OSFL?

I like my duo of Al Castellanos and Hugh Samuel. So far 1207 yards and 13 TDs. And the numbers are split down the middle. AC has 602 yards and 7 TDs while Samuel has 670 yards and 6 TDs.

And my guys have done it in 299 carries compared to Yumas 370 carries.

LOL...I stand by that. That loss to Los Alamos dropped the Riders from the dominant level. Last years team was dominant. This year....good but not dominant.

I'm confused as to how splitting carries makes a duo more impressive. When someone can top Clement and Moon's numbers - a new list can start.
                      The Great One!

                      Too many rings to count.

Because Clements was the duo. He had 1900 of their 2400 yds. I'm more impressed by Moon's 7 tds then his yardage.

I look at it like this: 5yrs from now if someone looks at the rushing stats from MC's 2006 season they will say "Wow look at Clements' season". They wont even mention Moon. If someone looks a Yuma's rushing stats from this year, they will say "2 1000 yd backs...thats impressive"

The 7 TDs is part of it though - is it not??? 2400 yards and 17 TDs between the pair (to me) is more impressive than 2 1000 yard backs that each score 6 TDs.

The 7 tds is part of it. So is the fact that Yuma team has only played 14 games. They could have 15-16 tds by seasons end and around 2200 yds by years end. If they reach that (which is likely) then its a no brainer.

One other thing: The article was about the best duo this year not ever but I think you could make an argument for ever.

Well, technically the article said "One reason for this is perhaps the greatest season for a RB combo ever."

I was simply interjecting my opinion of the greatest COMBO RB season ever. And, if they get to 2200 yards and 15 TDs... I still miss how that's better than 2400 yards and 17 TDs....
