Well Training Camps are done.....how'd your draftees hold up? Any big gains?

For the first time ever in the OSFL, I'm giving myself an A for drafting and here's why:

    Pick #103-Chris Gaines(FB), UMass
    Pre-Camp: 40/75
    Post-Camp: 47/72

-Not a huge drop. Will likely be a star in this league for years to come.

    Pick #77-Bert Dalan(C), Illinois
    Pre-Camp: 35/68
    Pst-Camp: 40/67

-Very pleased with this pick he will be a young anchor to our line. We've really been hurting since we lost Dana Battle a couple of years back, but looks like we've got a good starter in the middle again.

    Pick #217 Bart Hetrick(DT), BYU
    Pre-Camp: 19/61
    Pst-Camp: 24/58

-With All-Pro DT, Ken Ursino, 2nd year DT, Earnest Mueller, and now Bart Hetrick, we have a 3 headed monster in the middle that solidifies the middle and gives us more room to BLITZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Pick #139 Billy Ellison(OLB), Florida

    Pre-Camp: 19/60
    Pst-Camp: 22/54

-Like I said I didn't expect a whole lot from this guy being that he's a bit undersized for the OLB position. However I think he will still be a valuable asset in pass defense.

    Pick #15 Junior Bell(DT), Baylor

    Pre-Camp: 35/59
    Pst-Camp: 41/66
-I moved Junior to DE and had him lose a bit of weight and it looks like it will pay dividends. I'm very anxious to see what Bell will become as I believe he will become one of the better defensive ends in the league.

Pick #222 Trent Nixon(T), Nicholls State

    Pre-Camp: 19/51
    Pst-Camp: 16/44

-Trent is a 7th round pick so I shouldn't have expected too much. May not make the roster.

    Pick #214 Korey Wiggins(WR), Tulane
    Pre-Camp: 22/51
    Pst-Camp: 26/48

    -
Wiggins looks like he may make the roster although not a long term solution to our continuing receiving problem. With May, Winzenreid, Bowling, and Wiggins I don't like our lack of a deep threat but I love our playmaking ability on 3rd/4th down situations.

    Pick #207 Earnest Mincey(CB), Georgia

    Pre-Camp: 19/42
    Pst-Camp: 24/49

-As expected Mincey benefited with a move to safety and I believe that playing and learning behind long time safety, Adrian Burhart may elevate Mincey to an eventual starter.

      1.2 WR Rico Lofton (+5/+2) 37/69

      No complaints here.

      1.11 OLB Randal Uhl (+4/+5) 19/34

Would have like a bit more in TC, but still think he'll end up on the 70's.

      2.1 QB Terry Fleming (+3/-4) 19/45

Well, Shed went up +5/+2 so he'll obviously be a starter while Fleming will most likely not. We'll give him his shot this year though, but the jury's going to be out whether I should have drafted Shed or Uhl with 1.11.

      3.3 S R.J. Wulfeck (+6/+3) 33/43

Sweeeeeeeet. 3 starters so far and one miss

      3.24 LG Roger Bethea (+4/-7) 24/58

      4 starters

      4.2 DT Nathan Campbell (+3/-2) 27/39

He's going to be a pass run specialist. I had hoped for maybe a creep here, but doesnt look likely. He'll play nickel and dim situations and we'll see how he does

      5.1 K Jerome Stokes (+2/-1) 46/78

      5 starters. Stokes looks solid.

      7.1 RB Vernon Houston (+1/-1) 28/39

Likely nothing here, but we'll give him some carries and see what happens.

Also, last year's 1.2 pick La Bounty went up (+10/+1) to 79/85 and DT Strickland went up (+7/+1) to 43/63.

Pretty happy with this year's camp.

I don't have my numbers... but I will get at least 4 (maybe 5) starters out of this class. No mind-blowing numbers, but contributors.

Pretty crappy draft for me this year.

I'm used to drafting early and having a sure fire first rounder... it seems like I missed pretty big on my DE in the 1st round.

The rest of the guys were 'eh'.

Maybe one or two potential starters tops out of this class... and that's if I'm lucky.

2nd WR drafted, maybe the highest rated, Harvey Witt, woke up catatonic in his bunk. Dropped -28/-38 to 28/34.

Oof. I debating taking Witt, so I'm glad I dodged that bullet. Sorry Waco.

              Pre-Camp:

              1.6 DE Junior Bullock: 41/86.
              2.6 TE Harold Rogers: 41/72.
              3.6 RT Casey Schaplowsky: 17/56.
              4.6 C Howie Foreman: 29/71.
              5.6 SLB Ron Walker: 23/49.
              6.6 RCB Warren Gunn: 23/53.
              7.6 RB Melvin Massengill: 24/52.

              Post-Camp:

              1.6 DE Junior Bullock: 49/84
              2.6 TE Harold Rogers: 48/72
              3.6 RT Casey Schaplowsky: 22/61
              4.6 C Howie Foreman: 35/68
              5.6 SLB Ron Walker: 26/46
              6.6 RCB Warren Gunn: 25/48
              7.6 RB Melvin Massengill: 24/38

Overall, I'm really pleased with how my draft turned out.

Also, last season's defensive rookie of the year Brandon Sponable jumped up from 70/77 to 82/82. And Joseph Testa went from like 35/62 to 61/62. :)

Gonna have to lower my pre camp to an F. Chuch is still the highpoint of this class and Andersen will likely get a shot at FS, but those are the only two players who are likely to make my team this year. Easily my worst draft so far.

1:10 - Traded last year for:
                          LG Marvin Ulrich (67/67)
                          QB Jerome Hopkins (27/40)
                          C Jerome Huntley (48/60)
                          RT Artie Kramer (42/42)
                          DE Randy Bryant (39/54)
                          DE Nicky Evans (retired)
                          C Oscar Maxwell (retired)

                          2:15 - FB Tom Church
                          49/79 (+6/-2)

I had considered the Yuma plan of moving him to RB, but my own poor experiences with such moves in the past and the huge loss in rating it was telling me he would have suffered convinced me otherwise. I'll just have to find other ways to get him the ball.

                          3:14 - FS Kendrick Andersen
                          26/59 (+5/-2)

His potential rating decline was less than I had anticipated, but he can always lose more later. He'll get a lot of work in preseason, could even start for us this year (more as a result of Bontrager's decline than his improvements)

4:13 Round - CB Trevor Blackwell
                          12/18(+2/+2)

Well, that is an improvement. But not nearly enough of one to earn him a spot on the preseason roster.

5:05 Round - DE Courtney Monroe
                          22/31 (+1/-1)

So much for Randy Bryant v2.0. Monroe will probably stick around as preseason filler, but that's it.

                          5:12 - CB Corey Baldwin
                          23/32(+3/-0)

Like Monroe, Baldwin is going to stick around through preseason, but baring a crazy string of injuries won't find a fit into my rather crowded defensive backfield.

                          6:11 -LB Ike Yeager
                          23/45(+2/-0)

Yeager suprised me by not totally sucking. I might have to hold onto him a bit longer to see if he continues proving me wrong.

                          7:10 LB Donald Ellison
                          12/24 (+3/+2)

My best overall gainer in combined current and potential. He still gets cut.
