i agreee with mike toomany rules especially for you guys that play in 2 or 3 leagues. if given a choice id stick with the grey sheet rule. it seems to work pretty well so far and then as nutah said it would make getting those secondary parts easier

Would be easier if all FA1 contract offers were at least 3 yr

Allowing reneg's is ok if you're in a league with a cap reduction, which this league isn't.

I'm on the "yes" team about the grey sheet being scrapped. Use the 3 year minimum on UFA's, regardless of the bidding wars it'll create.

i'm in the minority, but I'd scrap all the house rules altogether. This isnt real, its a game.

I don't like three year minimums on FA1 as there are plenty of fringe players who don't want 3 year contracts. They want their $1 million for a year or two and that's it. Seems like a three year minimum would arbitrarily drive up the price for people who aren't deserving of a three year contract.

Renegs I could take it or leave it. I didn't like the rule when I first joined, but it does make you be more careful with your players. I always assumed the rule was in place to stop people from playing too many games with the finances.

I vote three-year contracts during FA1 and scrap the grey sheet. Much easier to remember.

If we have to have a free agent contract rule, go with 3-year requirement on all contracts for during free agency 1.

I would rather have the 3 year min FA 1, than checking to see if you need to offer years be asked for on the GS guys.

i guess what makes me confused about teh grey sheet thing and having to remember is simply that when you make an offer it automatically requests the years the player wants so as long as you dont change that im not sure what makes it "problematic"

There isn't much difference in giving a fringe player a one year min sal deal or a 3 year deal with min sal in each year with a 30k bonus. 30k won't make much difference if you cut the guy. But when a 45/45 player becomes available, I don't want to see teams blowing 25 million on the guy because they have it laying around and only have to offer one year to him, knowing that there is no real risk beyond the current season. I also think the same way about stud players who find their way to FA. Determining what risk you are willing to take in order to get a guy takes on a whole new meaning when you actually have to take a risk, rather than just offering 35 million for 1 year with no real penalty. No one looking to sign the guy long term can compete with that offer unless they pony up ridiculous money over the length of the contract.

Its only problematic because it is hard to police for the commish. Players also may request a 3 year deal from some teams and a 4 year deal from others, etc.

i guess beaucse its happened here and the commish hasent had to police it it was either self reported or one of the other onwers brought it up i mean since the rule started i can only recall 1 infraction and it was self reported IIRC i think the rule has worked as it was intended (to support immersion) seems im clearly in the minority on this but as ive said it seems to haev been fine for the last 5 or 6 seasons. im kind of a if it aint broke dont fix it kinda guy

As long as there's a minimum for FA1, I'm good. The Grey Sheet thing seems like too much hassle to me, but I'm not complaining. I like the 3-year FA1 rule generally.

I also think it's time to get rid of the final-year reneg rule. One of the updates *really* fixed reneg requests, and there's rarely much to be gained from reneging a player before his final year. Sometimes, but not nearly enough to warrant a rule anymore.
