That's not true in multi-player. Either that or the GM of every other league I am in has found some work around. I don't really know, I have never run anything in commish mode.

For example, I don't have the 1999 schedule for the GEFL but here is the relevant part of the 1998 version:

09-16 Thursday FA5- Start Timed Draft
    09-17 Friday FA6
    09-18 Saturday FA7
    09-19 Sunday
    09-20 Monday FA8-9
    09-21 Tuesday FA10-12/Draft complete

In this league the commish does regular draft file updates, usually every day. And he posts the current/future of every pick in the draft chat if you request it. How are both of those possible if what you say is true?

By the way, I am not trying to cause trouble. If it is league policy not to enter the draft until FA 10-12 is over, then I am fine with that. I just do not believe that there is no possible way to do it, since two other leagues I am in do it as standard practice.

        I don't know.

You'd have to ask Ben, or someone with more experience with the game.

Ok, I decided to set up my own fictional league to see what the issue is. And I don't. You simply hit "view draft preview" and you can start entering the picks... "View draft preview" is available all throughout FA 1.

I even went further and did some digging on FOFC. Apparently the only pitfall is not to enter pick 7-32 before finishing FA-1.

Jughead: as for your comment about it being a pain in the ass, I am not sure I understand what you are getting at. As far as I can see, it is a question of picking your poison. You either sit down and enter all the picks at once (time consuming) or you enter less picks many times (have to do it more often, but it takes less time at each occasion).

Why would it cause a pause in the draft? It does not in the GEFL or the USFL.

In any case, I won't say any more on the issue unless I am directly asked. And as I said, it won't change my enjoyment of the league whether this is changed or not. I just wanted to debunk the myths of it.

I've not run an MP league, so can't say for sure. But I believe with using Conscriptor, the commish just (basically) pushes a button and the util enters the picks. I can't imagine that commishes manually enter the picks anymore?

As for the potential delay, I'm talking about an owner on the clock, say with an 8 hour limit. He could make the pick, or he can wait until the next file comes out in another 6 hours to see his other picks. It's an example that can be picked apart in its specifics, but that's the concept.

No reason to stop discussing it, not like it's a sensitive subject. :)

No idea. But if so, I am sure there is also a way to enter a partial draft in the same manner. The guys who commish in the GEFL and USFL are also quite busy - I am sure they would not do anything that would make life a million times more difficult for themselves.

And I was responding to Linty who said the game did not let you do it at all. Maybe there are other issues that would make it undesirable to do (as you are pointing out). But that's different than saying it is impossible.

The drafts are timed just like here. I can only remember one time where someone waited on the clock since a file was about to come out. But people wait on the clock for all sorts of reasons.

And like I said, you do not learn anything from the pre-camp ratings that you should not already know. That's why I feel the whole discussion is moot.

Well, I am new here, I do not want to force my opinions on anyone.

Feel free to log onto to my cpu and continually click 'begin draft'.

I'm betting you'll have just as much luck as I am.

                  Linty's right:

you cant start the draft until the last UFA stage is run

you have to manually enter each pick

                  give the guy a break

Perhaps that is the issue. I did not click "begin draft". When I tried it, I just starting making picks (in FA1-1 no less). I will start my test league again this afternoon to see if I see what you see.

Ok, it turns out that I missed an important step... So let's go through it step by step.

                      1) Enter early FA, week 1.
                      2) Set all teams to AI control, or at the very least the teams you want to pick for (I missed this one because I already had all the teams on AI control in my last sim)
                      3) From the main screen, click "view draft preview"
                      4) It will say which team is on the clock and you will have the normal list of players.
                      5) Click on the player that you want to pick. He should now be highlighted.
                      6) No, you cannot click on begin draft. It is greyed out. But this does not prevent you from continuing to step 7...
                      7) "Select player" is no longer greyed out. It is now active. Click on it and the player that you have highlighted will be selected.
                      8) Continue the process with all the picks.
                      9) Do not enter pick 7-32 until early FA, stage 12 is complete.

Anyhow, that's how it is done. Let me know if there are any further questions on this issue.

Finally, I am not trying to give Linty a hard time. If he does not want to do it this way or if the league does not want to do it this way, that is completely his/your decision. All I am trying to show is that - "yes, it can be done!". ;-)

Yeah, that's kinda the sucky part.

It sounds like he did a manual enter, anyways, from what he said post draft... Although that's just how I read it, maybe I am wrong.

I just wanted to bring this up again since everyone said I was wrong...

So Nutah, did you notice that over in the CyFL that Bode is running stages and entering picks while the draft was still going? We're in the 7th round tonight and I can see almost all of my picks so far. And what stage are we at? FA 1-8 or something?

                            ;-)

I don't think I said you were wrong. I said I usually didn't look at players in SP until afterwards anyway. I felt it had a certain 'immersion' element to it, because you feel like a team owner that sees all the rookies at their rookie camps together for the first times, rather than knowing your first rounder is 25/40 (for example) before the second round is even over.

Last year was my first in the CyFL and the draft went the same way. Of course, I went to look at my player ratings as soon as I could since they were available, too curious not to. I'm rather indifferent though. Whichever style the commish prefers works for me!

Ok - you didn't say I was wrong but other people did. And certainly no one seemed to want to confirm what I was saying.
