hi everyone,

I just took over gm duties and have a few questions. maybe someone can enlighten me, thx.
The setup was a pain but doable, so at least that worked out well. Anyway i have a few general questions


The previous owner was playing a 4/3 defense, now I prefer a switch to a 3-4 def. is that advisable in the middle of the season, or should i wait till the end? The switch is inevitable anyways.
Also how do i determine if a Dc is better suited for a certain defense or does he only determine player development speed?

How do mentors work? Do they only help development within their skill group, or overall? I assume it would only help young players, so after how many pro years do they stop profiting ?

How bad is it to play players ouf of position? For example i would like to use a run stopping dt and switch him to a de in a 3-4 def. Advisable, yes or no?


Something on a more trivial note. I like the location and name of the team, but the logo seems very aliased, jaggy and bland. is there any way to change that? or even better somebody with photoshop, gimp skills could give me some pointers. same thing goes for the nice avatar helmets, photoshop as well i guess, or some templates? How can one acquire one?

Awesome! Great that we have a new owner, and that AI mainstays like Waco will now have to start being regarded as active, human owned teams. Welcome to the OSFL!

I saw something just the other day on FOFC where someone mentioned he thinks the defense takes a hit if you make that switch in-season (but it wasn't conclusive). No idea if this is accurate or not. I made a similar switch in another league last year midseason, and took my lumps ... but I'm not sure if it was that, or an incredibly poor roster.

In this game, I believe that all OC/DCs are for is development speed. 4-3 vs 3-4, depends more on personnel or your preference on what kind of team to build.

Mentors aid in development of young players at their position...years 1-3, I believe. The players have to be active in any given week for the mentorship to take effect, but the mentor being active or not doesn't appear to make a significant difference.

I'm not sure about playing players out of position. I heard once someone say that if a player has full experience at another position, they usually don't take much of a penalty playing out of position. And it's often advisable to do this as opposed to changing positions. You can also check in-game how much % ratings retained your scout indicates for that player when you try to switch him. I learned the hard way that no matter what the ratings show after the switch on your end, that % the scout quotes is more accurate.

Hoosier's the local guru around here, and I think he actually released updated team logos recently - but they may not have found their way into the league setup files ZIP yet.

Maybe someone else can chime in/dig up Ben's MP guide here...you may not want to take too much advice from the guy that just lost four straight! :)

this should help get me going in the right direction though.

Happy to hear Waco was AI controlled. That explains some of the strange draft/ roster moves.

The OSFL File Uploader specifies this path
C:\Program Files\Solecismic Software\Front Office Football 2007\export
for the export files.

everytime I create one though, it seems to land here
C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Solecismic Software\Front Office Football 2007\export

The file path is the same one I have, and the uploader recognizes it without a hitch.

Do you had photoshop skills? I use a .psd template I found from Davidson-Dixon's psd development site, it's free, and it's pretty easily used in GIMP should you be using that free clone of Photoshop.

There is a brand new template tht brings the helmets into the modern era, and I've been working on figuring out this template (it' isn't GIMP friendly, and NBryant has given me some clues on this helmet, and I've been holding off sending BEN the new graphics until I get this figured out and give owners here in the OSFL an option)

I've always played people out of position, but it's not a long term solution. They'll start getting disgruntled if it's too long. If you want to check on position changes, open the game, select the player, make the position change...if he booms or stays the same, that's good, continue on....if he drops off the face of the earth...close the game without exporting, and open it up again and he'll be back to his old self....

and changing to a 3-4 now shouldn't hurt...you could evaluate players in the 3-4 and better prepare for the draft..

Ok, I think it's because you're under the Registered Users usergroup, but not assigned to the NCFA Owners group, so you don't have the privilege yet. Andrew hasn't given me the permissions to make that change, so I'll run it by him when he's around.

I think you have to request that under User CP (link at the top left, in the black ribbon/bar), then Group Memberships.
