  • Portland Phantoms 2021 Draft

Portland team officials released a brief statement about the draft and there thoughs on each pick were revealed in a press conference with the GM:

Over all draft on the draft we had extra picks, with what our needs were vs players we liked we made a few trades to get picks for next years draft. we now have all our picks plus 2 extra 4th round choices next draft. We feel like the moves will help the team in the future more than the picks we traded could help now.

1-16 RB Malcom Harmon: We feel this kid will greatly help our running game, while we still believe Billy Joe McCarthy is a very good back we feel that Malcom's big play ability and overall versatility combine with McCarthy brute power will make the RB position a team strength this season.
***Quick update upon looking at the file he is 63/71 at the moment.

2-15 OLB Matthew O'Donnell: We were so happy that this kid fell to us in round 2 that despite our penchant for trading and offers to do so, we didn't. We think Earnie Hou needs some help harassing the other teams QB and O'Donnell is the type of player that can do that. He also has good coverage ability for a pass rushing LB, his skill set is one we really like.
He is presently 21/39, lower than expected, TC will tell still optomistic.

3-18 - QB Tim Halley: We wanted a younger QB on the roster, Eddie is still our QB but he can't play forever. When he decides to walk away from the game we hope this kid can step in and take over. He will have a good QB to learn from for now. Scouts were very high on this kid.
8/49 will need to develop alot, more TC hope

5-16 - TE Skip Dicosomo: Thought this kid was to talented to pass up, a third TE was needed and we feel this kid and contribute on offense.
    27/36 - for rnd 5 this works he's TE3

6-15 - DT Toby Raymond: Instintive Run stuffer, that's what we like about this kid, may move him to RDE, or let him backup both there and at NT.
22/47 looks like he can help on the DL

Thanks, yes I am happy with my draft. have to say I expected O'Donnell to move, was suprised his numbers were as low as they started.

For trading away several picks I have no complaints with how it worked out.
