Regular Season, Week 1: Denver Grizzlies (0-0) at Utah Bees (0-0)
UTA 27, DEN 21
box|log
Utah escapes with a key division win in their season opener, despite nearly a 10-point disadvantage in time of possession and despite being outgained 275-415.

Michael Glenn's starting debut with the Bees was spoiled by his own struggles; Glenn lost yards on three of his four careers and finished with -9 yards. He didn't have a single positive carry, and coaches opted instead for rookie Trent Adams most of the way, who only had 36 yards on 14 attempts.

Randy Boone threw for just 38 yards in the first half before finding his groove in the 2nd, connecting twice with Hunter Vandersommen on scoring throws of 56 and 31 yards. Boone scored the clinching TD on a 10-yard scramble early in the fourth.

The Bees' lone running success came on a 40-yard scamper from fullback Mario Evanswhite, and now head into week 2 with more questions than answers.

notes: 2nd-string WLB Ike Arias builds on last year's success with 3 sacks in reserve duty...starting corner Quinn Robinette suffered a calf injury in the 3rd quarter that is expected to sideline him for several weeks...

The Bees face the unsavory prospect of evolving to a short-pass offense (not Boone's strong suite), or getting its big-play guys on the field more. The only problem is that none of Utah's deep threats are expected to hold down starting gigs - TE Edwin Blades, WR Ray Mansker, and WR Shane Littlefield will only come on in sub personnel, often at the expense of each other.

Depth Chart Buzz
If Ray Mansker follows up on his strong Game-1 effort, the 6th-year receiver may finally break into the regular rotation in Utah, and possibly at the expense of career Bee fav Alvin Foley.

And why not? The Bees have had to march through the playoffs without Foley before, and he was hardly a difference-maker in his regular-season return in 2027. Meanwhile Hunter Vandersommen continues to, however improbably, carry the team when called upon.

Programming Notes
Charlotte's Antoine Pasricha filling Utah coaches with a sense of RB envy isn't the only thing we're taking notice of this week. Charlotte's presence of the schedule means that the AC West has drawn the NC South in cross-conference play this year...

...a gauntlet that, after DeJesus & Sons, runs through Morgantown, Gainesville, and Columbus.

The final stretch of the 2028 schedule looks completely brutal, so these Bees are going to have to take care of business early and hope to survive the finish. A win — however ugly — over our most serious competitors (recently) in-division is a good start.

Regular Season, Week 2: Charlotte Cougars (0-1) at Utah Bees (1-0)
UTA 45, CHA 16
box|log
Charlotte held an early lead, but Utah quickly pulled away in a redemption game for the Bees' offense.

QB Randy Boone atoned for his limited output in week one with a 22/28, 263-yard performance in which he threw for 5 touchdowns and no interceptions. RB Michael Glenn redeemed himself as well, notching his first 100-yard game with 21 carries for 107 yards. Gilbert Money added 50 on 14 in relief.

Charlotte QB Marshall DeJesus had a solid day and is one of the league's most promising young passers, but the Cougars were outgunned at every level. With the Bees possessing the ball for 38 minutes, it didn't leave much room for a reasonably potent Cougar offense to operate.

notes: Hunter Vandersommen added two more receiving TDs and now has four on the year. Neither Gilbert Money nor WR Shane Littlefield were active in week one, but both saw action and production this week in an attempt to get the fastest players on the field...the Bees host Anchorage for Week 3.

Regular Season, Week 3: Anchorage Gladiators (0-2) at Utah Bees (2-0)
UTA 23, ANC 16
Box|Log

Down 16-15 after an Anchorage field goal with 49 seconds remaining, the Home Team Bees drove 65 yards in 3 plays to win the game with some flair — and some last-second heroics from Alvin Foley.

With under 10 seconds to go, Foley split two defenders after his catch and zoomed the remaining 16 yards into the endzone. It was Foley's first 100-yard receiving game since before his ACL tear, in the 2026 regular season.

It was another rough day for the Utah ground game; the 40-15 pass/run split is quite uncharacteristic of a team committed to running the ball (4 of the called passes turned into Randy Boone scrambles). Fortunately, the defending champs get away with just a scare, and watch division rivals Denver drop to 0-3 on the heels of a 400-yard, 5-TD passing day from Ohio River QB Walter Andrews.

Denver's had a rough opening slate with Utah, Columbus, and Ohio River in succession...but we'll take it. Utah takes a road trip to Waco for Week 4.

notes: Troy Parrish drilled all five of his FG attempts today, including ones from 54 and 56 yards...backup WLB Ike Arias notched two more sacks in 16 plays, bringing his season total to 5.0 in limited action...

Regular Season, Week 4: Utah Bees (3-0) at Waco Warhawks (1-2)
UTA 36, WAC 13
Box|Log

No heroics necessary this time. The Warhawks have fallen hard since their 2026 conference championship appearance (probably because they are now run by the AI, let's get someone in here to fill that vacanacy!)...

The Bees didn't have much of a yardage advantage; they simply ground it out with over 34 minutes of possession and 38 rushing attempts (to just 27 passes). When he did pass, Boone was sterling in his efficiency (14/23 for 185 yards, 2 TD, 0 INT) and the Bees special teams notched some very big field position victories for what seems like the first time this year.

notes: Troy Parrish drilled all five of his FG attempts today, including ones from 55 and 56 yards...deja vu??! It's the second week in a row he's done that, and he takes home some well-earned POTG honors.

Regular Season, Week 5: Utah Bees (4-0) at Memphis Admirals (3-1)
UTA 34, MEM 8
Box|Log

The Bees' early season tear continues; only South Maryland (5-0) and Gainesville (4-0) now stand with Utah's undefeated record.

Utah featured a balanced effort, with Michael Glenn (16-80-3TD) and Gilbert Money (6-34) providing the ground game and Randy Boone (19-25-307-1TD-0INT) delivering the airmail.

Memphis was held to six three-and-outs on the day, five of them in the first half. We may also be witnessing the arrival of a new era in the Utah receiving corps. Ray Mansker and Shane Littlefield didn't start the season as top options in the passing game, but they're quickly progressing in that direction.

Although Foley and Vandersommen hold the top spots, they could both hang it up after this year. The expected successors — WRs Chester Haddix and Wade Morton — have thus far taken a back seat, with Haddix being benched for Mansker after a poor opening day performance.

For a bunch of 30 or 40-rated WRs, the Bees are managing to dig quite deeply into their reserves.

notes: After nearly being cut after two games, Gilbert Money is proving to be an asset in the run game, rarely losing yardage...CB Robinette is expected at least one more week, which would bring his season total to 5...the Bees host division rivals Phoenix in Week 6.

Regular Season, Week 6: Phoenix Riders (3-2) at Utah Bees (5-0)
UTA 48, PHO 3
Box|Log

After a close call in Week 3 against Anchorage, the Bees have been unstoppable. Utah will enjoy racking up the wins while it can, before it faces the backloaded second half of their schedule, but at this point they look hard to stop.

The Riders gained just 137 yards, and new Phoenix QB Lamont Emerson was sacked 5 times in an extremely forgettable performance. His counterpart, meanwhile, hit paydirt with deep throw after deep throw. Backup Roderick Sikkenga came on in time to notch a perfect 158.3 passer rating in six attempts.

With 1.2 overall Stanley Morrison on their side, the Riders' time will undoubtedly come. For now, though, the Phoenix rookie will have to wait.

notes: edge rusher Matthew O'Donnell recorded 3.5 sacks of Emerson, who has major pocket presence issues...rookie guard Ryan Thingvold earned his first start and fared well against a talented DL...Ray Mansker was the favorite target of the day, thrown to 13 times, and he didn't disappoint with 126 yards...Boone hit the 300 yard mark for the second straight week (he did so just twice in 2027)...the Bees have a bye in week 7 and will return CB Quinn Robinette on the flip side.

Regular Season, Week 7: BYE

Regular Season, Week 8: Utah Bees (6-0) at Denver Grizzlies (0-6)
UTA 23, DEN 3
Box|Log

The shockingly stumbling Denver Grizzlies continue their slide with a home loss to Utah in Week 8. Despite Randy Boone's low output - 147 yards and 3 sacks - the Bees remained in control of the game, thanks largely to a dominating defensive performance.

The first nine Denver possessions resulted in eight punts and one interception. Denver would get only two more to make up for it.

notes: Matthew O'Donnell recorded 2.5 sacks and 3 hurries...Quinn Robinette defended three passes on his first day back at the office.

Regular Season, Week 9: Port City Steam(5-2) at Utah Bees (7-0)
UTA 24, PC 14
Box|Log

The Bees gained a 484-179 advantage in yardage, but scrape by with a 10-point win in spite of the strong performance. After early season success, kicker Troy Parrish turned in the dud of duds, missing 4 field goal attempts (all from over 40 yards) and frustrating Utah's efforts at building a lead in a game in which they intercepted Steam QB Kerry George three times.

notes[: Boone's 321-yard passing day was his third 300+ day of the year...Michael Glenn's 107-yard rushing day was his second 100+ day of the year, with the other one, in week 2, also notching 107 yards.

Regular Season, Week 10: New Orleans Stingrays (3-5) at Utah Bees (8-0)
UTA 41, NOS 25
Box|Log

At 34, Utah quarterback Randy Boone appears to be having the year of his life. Boone completed 22 of 27 passes in a strong Utah victory over New Orleans, dinking and dunking his bees all up and down the field in a controlling, if not overpowering win.

New Orleans receiver Colin Fletcher - formerly of Utah Bees renown - contributed with a garbage time score to push the Stingrays over 20.

notes: 4th-string WR Shane Littlefield caught all 5 targets today for 57 yards...2nd-string FB added 2 receptions for 27 to contribute to under-the-radar Utah contributors on the day...the Bees continue to separate as both the league's highest scoring team, and the league's stingiest scoring defense.

Regular Season, Week 11: Los Alamos Monsters (5-3) at Utah Bees (9-0)
UTA 45, LA 7
Box|Log

The Bees turn on the heat again in the first meeting in 2028 of these in-division rivals. The Monsters are having a resurgent year, but a weakened offensive line -- LT James Erickson is suspended indefinitely for unauthorized drugs usage -- and a QB struggling with pocket presence combined in a nightmarish matchup against the league's strongest pass rush.

Utah's long made good use of its blitzing linebackers, but the revamped DL of '28 has taken its overall pass rush to a totally new level. In no game was this better exemplified than this one, where Austin Cash's 9-sack effort — from an otherwise efficient and talented QB — sunk any LA hopes for victory.

notes: Boone recovered from a 3-of-10 start to post his fourth 300-yard game of the year, complete with 4 TDs...backup QB Roderick Sikkenga scored his third touchdown and is 16-for-20 in some efficient mop-up duty overall this year...2nd-string WLB Ike Arias added 3 sacks to reach 9.0 on the year...Alvin Foley's 12.5 ypt hearkens back to his 2022 levels of production, and indeed, Boone is having a similarly explosive kind of year...Ray Mansker has eclipsed WR Hunter Vandersommen in the top 2 of Utah receiving options, and didn't disappoint with an 83-yard catch-and-run TD.

upcoming!: The Bees have so far had the luxury of the easiest SOS of the year (by opponent record), but all that's about to ramp-up in a four-game away tour that takes the league's last standing undefeated squad through Morgantown, Punxsutawney, Gainesville, and hosts Columbus before regular season end.

As has been typical of previous years, however, the balance of league power has tilted heavy in the favor of the opposing National Conference, and the American Conference Bees are overwhelming favorites to land a 1st seed in the playoffs early for the second straight season.

If the Bees do, it would put in considerable jeopardy 11th-year QB Randy Boone's hopes for his first 4000-yard season. In other somewhat unsavory news, talks between Bees management and their franchise QB, in the last year of his contract, for a contract extension have proven fruitless since they broke down at the beginning of the season.

It's expected management will step up big to retain their player. Sources say the Bees are extremely averse to the option of exercising the franchise tag on their main man, even if it comes at the expense of other team veterans.

Regular Season, Week 12: Utah Bees (10-0) at Morgantown Maniacs (4-6)
MOR 24, UTA 17
Box|Log

The league's last undefeated team goes down this week in an uncharacteristically sloppy game for the Utah Bees.

Recent 1st-round QB Leon Jennings has been panned for parts of his career, but was a flawless 133.8 on this day, impressively outdueling his Utah counterpart.

Boone completed 17-for-18 short passes, but just 4-of-16 on pass patterns beyond 9 yards. Even still, the Bees held a tenuous lead before 17 4th-quarter points - including two scores in the final two minutes - cut short Utah's ambitions for a 16-0 season.

notes: News broke pre-game of a 4-year monster extension for QB Randy Boone. It seems the team had lost most of its leverage somehow, and caved to most of the Boone camp's demands. More details to follow.

Regular Season, Week 13: Utah Bees (10-1) at Punxsutawney Phils (8-3)
UTA 26, PXT 13
Box|Log

A strong running game set Utah back on the path to victory in a tough road game versus playoff-bound Punxsutawney. Behind Stephen Wells' strong blocking, the Bees nearly boasted two 100-yard rushers (Gilbert Money came up one yard short).

notes: Randy Boone struggled through a 14-28 day in which he compiled a QBR of only 66.4...the Bees have been juggling OL starters in recent weeks, partly based on matchups and partly to get rookie first round pick Ryan Thingvold's feet wet. It was Thingvold's turn to start this week...Hunter Vandersommen's hold on the starting receiving gig has become wafer-thin, and sources say team management is regretting the pre-season trade of top WR asset Bryan Sidharta.

Regular Season, Week 14: Utah Bees (11-1) at Gainesville Gaels (7-5)
UTA 38, GAI 24
Box|Log

Randy Boone's found his groove again.

The 11th-year quarterback posted his 5th 300-yard game of the year on just 28 attempts, helping Utah lock up the #1 seed in the AC with style.

It's the earliest the Bees have ever captured the American Conference's top seed — they will have objectively nothing to play for in the final three games of the season.

The Gaels have managed, however improbably, to field two of the league's top-5 receivers and three of (arguably) the top 10, giving them an explosive passing game held back only by weaknesses in the line. Utah's vaunted pass rush - tops in the league - was able to reach Gaels QB Brant Cook four times behind the line, without which the shootout would have surely been in full bore.

Regular Season, Week 15: Utah Bees (12-1) at Los Alamos (6-7)
UTA 35, LA 28
Box|Log

The brutal season-ending road trip continues, but for Utah fans, the pressure's all off. The Bees captured the #1 seed last week thanks to struggles in the AC's other divisions.

Despite fielding a second-team defense, sidelining RB Michael Glenn, and changing up the receivers, the Bees kept Boone on the field throughout the game. Boone's been accustomed to season-ending rests, so what's different this year?

If official coachspeak is to be believed, the Bees are utilizing this rare opportunity of a 3-game free window to develop the future look of the offense under Boone. Talented, but underused receiver Chester Haddix got the lion's share of the work today, and WR6 Wade Morton demonstrated some able hands in a preview, perhaps, of a wide-open 4WR attack.

There may be another reason for Boone's 46 pass attempts though, and cynics would say he's chasing a personal record he has never set in his career: 4000 passing yards. A combination of a traditionally conservative offense and frequent early #1 seeds (Boone's last 16-game season was in 2025) has kept him away from a category that isn't even particularly elite.

notes: Boone's 4 TDs and 1 INT pushed his season totals to 32 and 6, respectively. At 3535 yards, Boone is well on pace to set some personal records this year, although QBR is going to be a longshot. His own record is 117.5 from 2022, and he stands at 109.5 this year...LA's Austin Cash had a splendid 330-yard passing day marred only by nine sacks....Matthew O'Donnell has added 3.0 to his season total and now matches his 17.0 count from 2027.
