  • Washington 2028

Washington has already perked up hopes for 2028 with the acquisition of Frodo Oglethorpe. This was a move we really wanted to make last year, but couldn't pry him from Phoenix. But it was still worth the plunge this year, with no QBs jumping out at us at 1.11, and Daniel Prescott withering away in the off-season.

If Tito Webb can just hang on for another year (or two), Washington could live up to their Bomber name once again. Webb-Corbett-Russell have BPRs of 80, 70, and 76 respectively. Factoring in with that is a great possession WR in Tiny Dickerson, a 2nd year stud TE, and a very strong receiving duo in the backfield. Oglethorpe will not be wanting for targets. And he has at least three very powerful OL in front of him.

New promo shot for the season - (from left to right, 5'9" FB Benjamin Tuiososopo, 5'10" C Donovan Hoover, 5'8.5" Frodo, 5'9" WR Tiny Dickerson)

Nice start by the midg... er, little person. 1 game, 1 win for the Bombers. After only winning 3 of his last 17 in Phoenix. There's hope for you yet, little fella.

Week 2 - not Frodo's fault, but just a flat game. Nothing exceptional, but nothing awful. A physical manifestation of malaise. Bleah.

                      Mid-Season

Call me an optimist, but I like where the team is heading. We've had some tough losses, and some nice wins. Most importantly, it feels like the team is settling in.

Obviously the big story is Rico Oglethorpe. He's not lighting the world on fire, but he's showing some flashes of all that promise he's never fulfilled. His rating is about 10 points higher than his previous best, and he's on pace for his first ever 30-TD season. More to the point, his 6 INTs in 8 games is a significant improvement. He's had 4-5 good games, and 3 real clunkers. Kinda bummed to see Daniel Prescott get pushed to the back, but there's no denying that Rico is an upgrade.

It's also no coincidence that Rico has brought a bump in attendance. Week 7 hosting the Phils was a franchise record for any game before January, and only 400 people shy of the overall record.

The biggest problem in the first month, at least, was the atrocious defense. Week 3 represented the first time in franchise history where the offense scored 30+ and still resulted in a loss. The defense has tightened up since, but still was allowing a lot of yards. This last week was a positive shift to a 4-3 alignment. The game was a loss, but that was on the offense only scoring 6 points.

The second half will not be easy; 6 of the 8 games are on the road. The whole division is struggling, but we want to finish strong. The goal with Rico on-board is not only making the playoffs, but winning. It's ambitious to think Super Bowl, but like I said... I'm an optimist. The scoring improvement should make us a true threat on offense. The defense just needs to hold better.
