  • ***Waco Warhawks 2033 draft class***

    Round 1 Pick 3 (3rd overall) - Gabe Shaver - RDE - Virginia Tech

After looking at the draft class, we decided that our main priority would be to rebuild our defensive line. We had hoped to trade up to #1 to draft Texas State DE Bradley Caldwell but South Maryland did not return our e-mails and they ended up selecting him first overall. We felt that there was a strong chance that Yuma would draft Shaver with the 4th pick if he was still available so we drafted him with our first of two early first round picks.

    Round 1 Pick 5 (5th overall) - Carson Wayne - RDT - Virginia Tech

After Yuma drafted quarterback Maurice Hale with the 4th overall pick, we selected our second first round target, defensive tackle Carson Wayne. Shaver and Wayne give us two young stud defensive lineman that were also college teammates at Virginia Tech. We feel that we have drastically improved our D-Line and that we will have a smooth transition to a 4-3 defense after signing Brade Stabenow in free agency and drafting these two young stars.

      Round 2 Pick 4 (36th overall) - Troy Gilmore - FL - Arkansas

We felt that wide receiver talent in this draft class was extremely deep and that Gilmore was the best player available when we selected him. Our scouts see him as a first round talent and project him to be a possession receiver who can be a starter at split end.

        Round 2 Pick 5 (37th overall) - J.J. Gideon - FL - Texas A&M

Our scouting staff had a hard time choosing between two wide receivers with this draft pick. The other player that we were looking at was Washington State's Jacob Coffey who was selected 44th overall by Phoenix. We decided to go with Gideon because he looked to have a higher ceiling than Coffey. Our scouts believe that this is reflected in their pre-training camp ratings.

Round 2 Pick 15 (47th overall) - Irv King - RCB - North Carolina State

Following their interview with him, our scouts felt that CB Irv King was very underrated coming into the draft. We feel that with his combine numbers he has the potential to eventually develop into a starting cornerback in the OSFL.

            Round 3 Pick 31 (95th overall) - Logan Bernstein - FB - Maryland

After trading down with both Yuma and Dakota, we selected fullback Logan Bernstein who we saw as the BPA regardless of position. Our scouts view him as either a strong receiving fullback or a project Tight End convert.

              Round 4 Pick 3 (99th overall) - Johnnie Heatherly - RG - Wyoming

We continued to rebuild our offensive line with this pick. Given his good run blocking, pass blocking and blocking strength along with his low endurance our scouts project Heatherly to be a backup Guard.

                Round 4 Pick 4 (100th overall) - Mitch Burns - RT - UCLA

We had originally had hoped to draft California LT Bryce Sink with this pick but we was selected at 3.26 by Phoenix. Similar to Heatherly, our scouts project Burns to be a backup lineman.

                  Round 5 Pick 5 (133rd overall) - Lorenzo West - C - Baylor

After trading pick 4.24 to Washington, we selected West as BPA with our final pick of the 2033 draft. Consideration was also given to draft TE Marco Poole who was picked by North Liberty at pick 5.17. West will compete in training camp with UDFA Tommy Puckett and 3rd year vet Harris Mutzel for the backup center job behind starter Bob Rivera.

Irv King was in consideration for my first round pick IIRC, but the WR I nabbed was too good to pass up.

ill jump in here, interesting as the scouting differences have been mentioned. my offensive scout sees your guys pretty much as yours does within a point or 2 in some cases identical. interesting cause my scout is only slightly better than Wacos.

on defense my scout is average at best. my scout is way off like 20ish or so points current and future but always lower. in this case wacos scout is much better so i GUESS its to be expected?

                          just thought id share

oh by the way i hate your defensive line

Interesting. My ratings tell me that the DL aren't as good as his scout says, though I find that hard to believe. Irv King continues to look mediocre, which is what my interview said.

On offense I'm all over the place, though most are in line with his scout except for the FB which his scout has much higher.,
