  • Cam Recker: Shovin' Him Down Your Throat

Hello lads and lasses, it is I, sir Bananas of Chuck, here with the Mustard Grape Minute. Last week the Yuma Aces started their season with a bitter defeat at the hands of division rival Pearl Harbor. My boy, my muse, my pal and my confidant, Mr. Camden Recker.. Well, he wasn't the greatest in week one. He was so bad, I put off writing about him for a week. Its tough to gloat when you're the man with the smallest boat.

    HOWEVER

In week two, Recker was great. He threw for over two hundred yards, including a beautiful 25 yard strike to Norm Welch for the go ahead touchdown. The Aces never looked back after that. Recker stood tall in the pocket, seeming to grow several inches each time they snapped the ball. By the end of the game, the man was towering over the field, casting a shadow of success on his teammates and bathing them in visions of his glorious countenance. It was a poetic Sunday, one where the unseasonably balmy 57 degree desert cool seemed to prevail throughout the stadium. Recker was like a bird without wings, completely unflappable.

I spoke with WR Nick Dole after the game, and the rookie wideout gave me his P.O.V. on being at the receiving end of constant perfect spirals.

C.B.: 7 catches and 67 yards this week, nice performance.. How did it feel being on the receiving end of 9 targets this week as the top WR after Perkins got nicked up?

Dole: I felt better this week, I think I was a little shaky in my first game last week, had some jitters.. I think I got some of those worked out this week. Cam was throwing some solid balls out there tonight, gave me a lot of chances to get comfortable and try to make some plays.

C.B.: It seemed like the key was getting some yards after the catch this week.

Dole: Yeah, last week I was fighting it pretty hard. Had that drop and just couldn't really get a handle on it when it came my way.. I think our timing was just a little off, and my concentration was not where I want it, but this week was a lot smoother. I think I can do a lot better though. We're starting to get some good chemistry going and I have a guy like Perkins showing me the ropes too.

C.B.: Do you think Perkins came to Yuma to play with Cam Recker after hearing he worked with Jumbo Clements in the off season?

Dole: I don't know why he came here and I don't want to speak for him, but I am definitely glad he is here. We missed him this week, but he told me he will be back for next week. I'm excited to see what we can do if we can keep dialing it in and getting healthy.

C.B.: Count me in the excited group as well, Nick. I'll be looking for that increased comfort level to show in the coming weeks.. And for what its worth, I think he came for the cool weather in the desert.

Dole: Maybe Chuck, perfect football weather in Yuma.

After our chat, I can't help but think I was talking to another future star in Dole. The kid has remarkable poise for a naked 22 year old with a middle aged reporter in his face talking to him about other men. That ought to suit him just fine.

Until next time, men and women. Stay Reckt.
