THE OSFL DRAFT: DAY 1 REVIEW

Kicking off the OSFL draft, game manager Alex Bond made a questionable pick by taking Heisman Trophy running back Charlie Schultz for the 1st overall pick in the OSFL draft. While many fans applaud the decision, it is also the final nail in the coffin against first round pick Melvin Bryant, who is in his third season.

Bryant has been an underachieving back who takes far few carries in the current offense. Many fans wonder why the Stags need a new back, but Bond says "It's the right choice" in the draft day 1 press conference.

"When you look at how badly our running game is, and how mediocre Bryant has been - it is clear that he was a 1st round bust. While he would be alright if taken in the second round, his inability to carry the team as a starter has regulated himself to a backup role" Bond said in the conference.

I, however, believe Schultz is a fantastic pick. I mean just look at how athletic this kid is! He has been carrying the Iowa State Cyclones for 3 straight seasons, and will now do the same for the Stags.

Charlie Rushed for 250 yards and 2 Touchdowns against #10 Baylor in a the Iowa State Cyclone's upset victory in the BIG 12 championship game.

His speed is spectacular, having run the fastest 40 yard dash in the entire 2039 draft class.

In addition to this, Schultz shows excellent ability to find a hole and stick to it, and has a lot of versatility to the outside running game. When this fails, Schultz has proven himself to be a viable receiver out of the backfield.

All in all, we think this man is a hall of famer in the making.

With the addition of Perez to the Stag's offensive line, it is clear that GM Alex Bond is switching up the offense to feature this spectacular player.

Stags thrash Gladiators, snap losing streak

After a terrible 1-15 season, the Kalispell Stags have opened with a victory for the first time since 2036.

The Gladiators previously had a 3 game winning streak on Kalispell, which was finally snapped in the home 31-17 victory. The game was a dominant performance by the defense which included and interception and a fumble returned for a touchdown.

Second Year starter J.C. Hartman had a fantastic game, completing a majority of his passes and throwing a touchdown.
"The new coordinator is much better than the previous one" Hartman comments , "The whole team seems to work better"

This of course, was also the rookie debut of 1st overall pick Charlie Schultz. Schultz ran for 71 yards on 11 attempts in a game he shared with former first round pick Melvin Bryant. Coach Woodfield has announced that Schultz will be taking a much bigger load in future games.

    Maxim Analysis:

Maxim 1: The Team that makes the fewest mistakes wins
Kalispell has a nasty 6 penalties, but excellent play by the defense allowed them to overcome these errors.

Maxim 2: Play for and make the breaks and when one comes your way - SCORE!
Kalispell Kalispel got a score both off their INT and on a forced fumble return. This made the difference for what was a spectacular win.

Maxim 3: If at first the game - or the breaks - go against you, don't let up... put on more steam.
Kalispel opened up the game by rattling off 10 points - which were immediately answered by Anchorage by halftime. Kalispel immediately responded with heavy defensive pressure and managed to have a good lead by the 4th quarter.

Maxim 4: Protect our kickers, our QB, our lead and our ball game.
Kalispell only gave up 2 sacks, which only resulted in a loss of 3 yards total. Last season, the Stags had a chronic problem with sacks ending drives. This time they pushed on with excellent OLine play.

Maxim 5: Ball, oskie, cover, block, cut and slice, pursue and gang tackle... for this is the WINNING EDGE.
With fantastic pressure on the QB and good tackling overall, Kalispell's front 7 managed to do contain Anchorage enough to keep them from scoring.

Maxim 6: Press the kicking game. Here is where the breaks are made.
Kalispell started on the 32 yard line on average, while Anchorage started on the 23. That extra 10 yards certainly made a difference today.

Maxim 7: Carry the fight to our opponent and keep it there for 60 minutes.
Kalispell never stopped pouring the pressure on Anchorage, ensuring a comeback would never happen.

    Overall, an excellent game.

    See you all next week.
