The New Orleans Saints spirits are flying high and 3rd year GM, cdmikes, is elated after garnering the only A+ draft grade in the Solecismic Times. New Orleans is stepping away from a 2053 season that can only be described as a see-saw for this franchise, riding high through the first eight weeks to a 5-2 record, than falling flat, finishing the remainder of the season 0-8.
After re-equipping a broken New Orleans roster in his first season, leading them to their first playoff appearance and winning record in over a decade, cdmikes could only describe the 2053 season as being “a sobering reminder how far this team still has to go to compete with the big boys of the OSFL”. He believes this draft class is that start:

    1.3) WR Buddy Binn – 6’1, 211lbs Central Michigan
    proj. - 71ovr
    1.10) MLB Riddick Jones – 6’1, 243lbs South Carolina
    proj. - 73ovr
1.15) QB Jeffery “Too Short” Warren – 5’10, 214lbs Oklahoma
    proj. - 57ovr
    2.8) TE John Sellers – 6’3, 247lbs Nebraska
    proj. - 64ovr
    2.9) SS Alexander McCarthy – 5’8, 189lbs USC
    proj. - 50ovr
    3.27) RB Dalton Carpenter – 5’9, 216 Indiana
    proj. - 57ovr
    4.1) RB JT Wolf – 5’7, 208 Mizzou
    proj. - 46ovr
4.9) QB Thurman “The Terminator” Swartzentruber – 6’2, 217lbs Stanford
    proj. - 35ovr
    5.30) WR Conrad Fish – 5’11, 186 Tennessee
    proj. - 37ovr
    6.11) CB Jason Manahan – 5’11, 192lbs Nebraska
    proj. - 51ovr
    6.30) LT/LG Leland Haralson – 6’4, 302lbs Illinois
    proj. - 41ovr
    7.9) DT Freddie Greer – 6’2, 301lbs Eastern Michigan
    proj. - 38ovr

If my draft holds as is, I'll be very happy. If my scouts were right about underrated players *and* the other numbers hold up reasonably well *and* one of the WRs turns into a solid #3/#4 type, then this will be in the running for my best draft class yet. I'm not counting on that happening, but I got a ton of value depth in the defensive front seven plus wild cards at guard and corner to go with my shiny new offensive backfield.

          RB Sammie Mathews - 45/64
          FB Jay Adams - 50/75
          DT Wally Irvine - 33/49
          WR Jeremiah Westbrook - 21/38
          OG Casey Beyer - 19/58
          WR Bucky Bruce - 20/40
          LB Joey Adam - 20/40
          LB Efrain Powell - 21/42
DE Mike Costa - 35/47 [moved from LB]
          CB Lorenzo Aspel - 28/45

A full write-up on each player is available in the Wayfinders thread.

1-24: RT Victor Borders - 22/73. At 22 he's already an improvement over my existing RT and might eventually be the best rated player on my OL.
2-24: TE Sawyer Duffy - 27/48. Will solidly slot in as my #2 TE this year and probably succeed Eli Dawkins as #1 when he retires in a year or two.
7-24: LG Jonah Mathis - 26/55. Has no chance of holding up to that rating and has no endurance, but will do just fine as a backup G for cheap.

Overall rating: B+. Needed three players to meet roster minimums; got those three. Addressed my weakest position and future-proofed my oldest starter. Not a spectacular draft - but an effective one.

Now that EX 3 is in here's our boys:

1.28 Miguel Malone G 38/71 -> 38/71 (I should've taken the WR Carr, but this guy is pretty solid. My 1st round Guard from a few years ago got the VSOD from 65/65 to 16/16 so Miguel will be a day 1 starter.)
2.32 Roderick Smithen SLB 54/65 -> 64/74 One of the best linebackers in the draft. Was surprised he fell to me but linebackers always seem to. This is the pick I received for Preston Copeland in trade.
3.28 Taylor Bay WR 23/37-> 24/34 Seemed like a decent WR but I guess not. My one true whiff in this draft.
4.28 Chris Cropley Jr. WR 36/50 -> 41/58 Wow! He might not be as good as his old man was, but he's pretty good. Great find for the end of the 4th round.
5.28 Damon Stevens CB 22/51 -> 27/51 Decent cover corner at a position we could use another body at.
6.28 Mel Dunn WR 28/44 -> 34/48 We have a lot of bodies at WR now. It's nice. Along with our young UFA find Gabriel Wood we should be OK at WRs for a few seasons to come.
7.28 Harris Lane OLB 16/43 -> 21/43 Getting a depth LB is nice at the end of the 7th.
