So, I'm thinking of doing something drastic:

Cutting my entire team after the season ends.

But only after I trade some of the key pieces.

    Seriously.

If I can move my WRs for some choice picks, I'm seriously thinking of cutting everyone else.

    Thoughts?

I never had a problem with people wanting to trade away players on a team that isn't being successful, in order to revamp the team. However, I think releasing the whole team is ludicrous. You still need backups and other players. I'd trade what I can, release some guys that are useless on the team, and keep everyone else that can contribute, then start over. Releasing everyone makes rebuilding much too difficult.

So I say: Don't release your whole team. There isn't really a choice for this, so I'm not voting in the poll.

That sounds like a no to me, Irish.

I have no problem having scrubs for backups (see: Boston last season).

The only problem I see with this whole thing is it could.be considered tanking, which wasn't my intention.

Oh, I'm definitely keeping my kicker and punter. They matter so little...

I'm thinking of doing this in another league once we hit the offseason. Sometimes, you've taken a team as far as you can and it's time to purge and start over. Not sure about cutting everybody, but 90% is a good start.

What about this: if you hate your team that much, instead of blowing it up, take one of the several GM-less teams. That is just like starting over.

                yes it is tanking

                that being said....

i sympathize with this it seems like there is a specific formula once you build a team and once youve discovered it any variation is quite frankly disastrous (see my 2 losses and LA game) i lost 2 out of 3, tinkering reloaded my gameplan from my game against Dakota, play punxatawney bang 41 points

i find myself simply waiting till the playoffs and a few key games

at my core i really dont like this but if its what you need to do to keep interest so be it, for some the challenge is the building more than the playing as it were

i mean its not any worse than Utah stockpiling 15 draft picks and trading away top 10 picks every year and basically controlling the draft that shouldn't have been allowed to happen but it did

much like that it WILL tip the balance of power

                prepare to reap the harvest

perhaps its just me maybe i need to look for a league thats a bit more serious

We'll, it's not winning or losing so much. I honestly was going to quit completely after I won the championship the other season.

Part of it is life. Part of it is my interest waning.

I'm not finding this league terribly challenging right now. I don't mean that as a knock on the owners here, it's that I've more or less achieved the team I was trying to build and am now maintaining it. I don't like maintaining.

I'm being a bit melodramatic as it's pretty clear my defense needs some love (they're old) and my offense is about to look significantly different after this season. I'm thinking I may just want to reboot the whole damn team, but not literally. I do think it would be tanking. I didn't initially, I do now.

Maintaining gets boring, building is fun. In the BLB (OOTP) when I had the #1 farm system I had more fun than when I've been to the playoffs the last few years. It's fun to add pieces, watch development, and try new things. With my team now I've been on autopilot for a few seasons. I don't even have enough money for FA so the offseason is really boring. Two titles and the playoffs have been fun, but the season gets long.

                      Agree 100%.

Over a 14-year stretch I went to the playoffs 12 times...including a three-peat championship run. While it is still fun to compete every year, "maintaining" can get boring. The season takes for ever and with no budget room to play with in Free-Agency, you are basically waiting all season and off-season for the playoff sims. Yawn.

Garion, IMO, I would take over one of the GM-less teams...and THEN cut everyone. If your team is good currently, why not let them go on CPU control and try and build another contender? I think cutting everyone from your current team and then building from scratch is not the way to go.

I will say that I can relate to what garion is saying. I'm in a similar situation in another league. Not that I've won championships or anything, but I feel I've done all I can with the team. So it's time to break it up and rebuild. That is the fun of this. Building a team. Putting the pieces to the puzzle together.

Game planning isn't my strong suit. My team in GML is proof of that. I've put together a really good team and have won the division five times. No game planning involved. I can't screw it up. So I know I can get the guys. I also know I can't always put the best game plan together. So for me...building is the fun part. Well...that was a tangent. Point being...if you want to tear down and start over, I don't see it as a problem. It's when guys have the talent and start losing mid-season. Realize the season may be getting away from them and don't try to improve things. To me that's tanking.

I don't think tearing down a team is necessarily a problem. Generally, I think owners should get latitude to run their teams as they please.

Releasing every player at the offseason turn, though?
