Do we have a trade committee? This seems extreme.

Dihn is the 5th highest rated CB in the league, and is 2 years younger then 2 or 3 of the guys rated higher then him.

As you can see, I had the following offer for Schroeder, a CB rated 8 points lower and one year older:

        2nd, 3rd, 3rd-4th (CB), 4th and a 5th

CB was a player he valued as a 3rd-4th rounder.

The difference between the offers? All his picks were this year. Tarcone is giving me 1 pick this year, 2 next year, and 2 in two seasons from now. There are many guys who consider future draft picks less valuable then current year draft picks, and I think that holds true in many ways. I don't think the offers where to far apart, and where they were is made up by the fact that Dihn is a higher rated player then Schroeder.

Dumb newb mistake, my bad, post above edited. My point still holds up though. The market was there, I had offers and this one won out.

This is an OK deal by me. A lot of people believe in the "a pick a year later is worth one round less." So if you follow that school of thought, PHX gave up the value of two 2nd round picks, two 4ths, and a 6th. Plus, don't forget that while PHX was a poor team this year, I would expect them to be a lot better in the coming seasons. With the recent addition of WR Sammy Slade and now Dihn, the development of his superstar rookies, the Riders will, well, ride again.

THat's not a great way to make the argument because what the 5th best CB in the NFL worth in a trade? Maybe 1 2nd rounder?

DeAngelo Hall for a 2nd Rounder

Dre Bly for a 2nd string OT and a 2nd string RB

Champ Bailey for a 2nd Year RB (who ended up being pretty good - however, Bailey is also the #1 CB in the league)

I'm fine with whatever. I just think it's totally lopsided and unrealistic. Just an opinion.

I share this opinion. However, this game doesn't mirror the real NFL is any number of ways, and this is one of them. Is this is the market value for a top-5 cornerback in the OSFL, then so be it. I just hope it's not looked upon as a barometer for future trades, as in, "Hey, this offer sucks, look at what Dinh went for." Because then no trades will ever occur.

I dont think this is the real market value for a top 5 CB but we have to allow owners to make bad trades and imo this is just a bad trade...not a lopsided one.

When I win the championship, then talk to me about crappy trades.
My defense has become one of the best in the league. I just traded for one of the top CBs in the league and I get to pair him with one of the top CBs in the league. My cohesion was already average.

I look at things in this light. If its worth it to me, then Ill pay for it.

What you don't seem to be factoring in is that an online league has to look at every team from the perspective of "WHAT IF" the current owner quits. If you leave, how appealing to take over is a team that just traded most of their first day picks for one player?

Really its only one 1st round pick. That wont handicap anyone to badly. Especially when they see the defense I put together. A late 20s to early 30s pick isnt a rebuilding pick anyway. Thats a pick to maintain the flow of a team.

We had this occur in another league im in. But about 3 rounds of picks were traded. Within 2 seasons, both GMs were gone. I understand this thought process, as we had a huge discussion about it. But, again, I only traded one 1st round pick. And one future 2nd. This will not cripple my team or, should something bad happen, make it unappealing for a new owner.

Gotta say I don't see anything wrong with this deal at all. Picks get thrown around a lot in FOF leagues as a rule almost.. Some leagues have much more aggressive trading and others are more tame, but you have to decide ultimately, "How much would I pay to win, and what do I think I need to pay for?"

I traded a LOT to move up and get Dean Boshier and won a title that year and almost repeated, and I attribute a lot of that to his ability to balance our offense. He may not have insane numbers yet, but within the framework of our team he is an incredibly large piece.

I think we have a very competitive league and I highly doubt Tarcone would have done that deal if it wasn't something he could accept. It takes two to tango here, and both parties agreed on a price. No biggie.

As for the result of the deal, I can't wait to take a shot at those bastards in Phoenix again, and now I have even more reason to hate their souls. We'll be sure and crank out a 120 rating or so next time we see em.
