Now that it's official... here's the take from Motown....
I feel like we're overpaying a little bit for a mid-40's WR, but our team simply does not have much receiving talent and are absolutely 100% absent of any return skills outside of Cris Gardner and Jermaine Lowman (who are both too valuable to return kicks).
Heney gives us another 45-48 level WR to line up opposite Lorenzo Woodworth. They're both young and should somewhat nail down the position for a few years.
The 2nd Rounder SHOULD be late and the way WRs go in this league, the talent available around pick 55 is simply not a guarentee to even develop to this level.
I disagree that Heney is average, fwiw. If I didn't have the absurd overabundance of WRs that I have, he wouldn't have been traded at all. Heney is +6 since he was drafted despite getting very little playing time. I suspect that he's a mid to upper 50s WR--not a star, but a solid starting WR in an environment where WRs are becoming increasingly important.
