Originally drafted in the inaugural draft by the Hartford Whalers in the 56th round. After two years on Hartford's Single-A team, he was cut in 1980 and signed by the Washington Bats organization. This season he started in Double-A, hitting .346 with a .860 OPS. Later he was moved to Triple-A where he hit .265 with a .736 OPS. He is 25 years old, and according to the Minor League System Report, he is "Ready for major league level." We shall see. He has OK hitting ratings, but is a stud in the field. Hopefully I have (finally) found my #2 catcher.

Wow, it looks like you may me the next candidate to make a run at Windy City for the division title. If Tardiff continues to develop as quickly as he has next season could be your year. A lot of GMs might be tempted to play Rowell in RF where he is actually rated, rather than have him fight for playing time behind Windley though.
Your team has played pretty well this season after the slow start.
Yup. And a lot of GM's would probably have paid more attention to where he is rated! I just looked at the number and assumed it was at C. Maybe I will look at moving him...

We didn't want to have to do this, but we have no choice with the injuries. The slightly good news is that we may get a starter back in 3 weeks. But it might be too late. For now 20yr old Virgin LaVergne gets a 3 week preview. He started this year in A ball, but has moved up pretty steady.
He batted .322 in A, then .394 in AA, now in a just a few AB's in AAA he batted .286.
We were hoping to give him a season or two at AAA before trying him up here, but injuries have ravaged us. We're still in a pennant race, and we're so thin that he's actually going to be starting for us! So we'll see how he does for three weeks. Since our lineup is full of minor leaguers, he should fit right in.

Ouch, good luck to LaVergne, but damn, you must be hurting if you had to call him up to start.

Schooley is hitting .246, with a .720 OPS, in 61 ABs. He can field all the infield positions at a decent level, and looks like he could fill the utility role for me in 1983.
Nielly has started four games, giving up a total of six earned runs. In 24.2 IP, he has given up only 20 H, and 9 BB, while striking out 22. His 1.18 WHIP and 2.19 ERA are much lower than I expected.

Kids batting .318 so far. Not bad for a 20yr old who started the season in A ball.

Look at all our excitement over the players we were calling up. Did any of them stick?
Obviously the most glaring example is Tardif rocking the BLB.
For California, Steve Boyd failed miserably and now he's back in AA working himself back up the prospect list...
But what about others?
Interestingly enough, the one guy I didn't mention who was called up late last year was Brooks George. He's done an admirable job so far hitting .295 in 550 at bats... very little pop, below average speed and a horrible BB/K ratio, but he's a solid doubles hitter, plays good defense (10 OF assist this year! Which ties him for 1st in the IL with Feliciano Angeles of Wilmington and Eddie Just of Virginia) and so far, hits right handers better than he does lefties. Overall, I'd say the kid has done well for himself.

Just and Cheatem are still up. Just has been a starter since he arrived and will continue to be. Cheatem slides into the starting spot at 3rd with Arce leaving, but has hit .300+ as my utility IF all season.
