IF we are going to change the cap by a reduction, it would be a good move to announce it a season before it takes effect. It would change FA. just don't want a team to go from tight to cap hell all at once without much warning.

Agreed, it would need to be something that people could plan for in advance and might need to be phased in (10% reduction YR1, 15% reduction YR2, 20% reduction YR3, etc).

I wouldn't mind going to this format, I like the idea of even further roster crunching and more thought going into offseason moves.

Just to allay concerns here, the hack has been used for many seasons across many leagues with no ill effects. It was a potential concern when it was initially discussed, but it's proven to have no problems.
