Two first rounders now in the book for Motor City.... first time we've ever had two 1sts.

Now, I'm the first to admit I know nothing about masking and bar sets and BS like that... so I just do the best I can.....

    MOTOR CITY MECHANICS

    Round 1 - Pick 14

    Joseph Jenkins
    RB - East Carolina
    5'11" 225

How do you replace arguably the greatest RB in OSFL History? Well, you don't really... but you have to start somewhere. The Mechanics burned a 2nd on Roy Ellington last season figuring the end was near for Cris Gardner - unfortunately, though we were right on Gardner, we were wrong on Ellington. That bring us to today and drafting of Joseph (Don't call me LeRoy because I hate nicknames in this game) Jenkins. Not the highest rated back by some scouts estimates, but we liked him and, to be perfectly honest, he reminded us the most of Gardner.

Not the fastest guy, but a competent runner who can leak out of the backfield to catch a pass or two. Jenkins will be looked at to start right away in Detroit.

    ***

    Round 1 - Pick 19

    Mercury Huard
    CB - Utah State
    6'0" 194

In a draft that may go down in history as the deepest in the secondary in OSFL History, 4 safeties and the 1st CB came off the board before the Mechanics made the call to Utah State's Mercury Huard. Not the sexiest pick in the world, Huard will come in and learn behind Joel Montoya in hopes of soaking up some knowledge from the 10 year Pro.

Huard doesn't expect to rate well overall, but he should do enough well to be a solid starter in the OSFL.
    The Great One!

    Too many rings to count.

I think they're both going to be good ones, although I probably would have gone with the Gaither if I was looking at a CB. But good picks.

With the 23rd pick in the 2023 draft, Morgantown chooses ... Rickey Liliedahl, cornerback from Baylor.

The crowd reaction in Morgantown was mixed, but the front office seemed thrilled. "While we may not like his name, we like the way he moves on the field both manning the cornerback position and returning punts. He's not afraid to get a bit physical and we expect him to help us in run support from time to time."

Well, regardless of how you pronounce that last name, Morgantown welcomes you to the NFL, kid.

Crazy draft, and unbelievably deep. Jorge Murphy and Isaac Forbes in the mid-20s, to playoff teams???

We're pretty happy with Gaither, certainly our #1 choice at CB. But truth be told, we had WR Sidharta at the top of our list, so CURSE you, New Orleans.

That being said, the excitement in Washington is building, as Gaither will be a starting CB, and longtime star Nate Graham is going to move to SS. Gaither-Graham-Stone is a helluva starting three, along with whichever long-time Bomber gets the FS position. Liking our defensive backfield a whole lot already.

muwhahaha! But yes, the depth is unbelievable...anybody drafting in the 1st round should be thrilled with what they got.

I was stoked that Forbes fell as far as he did. I am also stoked to pick up the RB at 1.30 as well.

PS: Murphy is gonna be a TERROR in this league. Along with the other OLB that fell far, Covington.

Day two of the draft, we had our eyes on two targets. DT Jerome Howe and OG Mo Giles. Actually, we would have been all over ILB Rondell Gillooly if we hadn't invested very heavily into our SILB of the future during the 2022 draft.

We ended up deciding to pass up on Howe, which was a tough call, as his leadership traits were excellent and the entire defensive roster would have loved the guy. What's more, we passed on him twice...having had the chance to get both the targets, and settling for just one.

At guard, we may be a little bit overstocked now, since Huffman is old, but not quite done yet. We'll probably have to see how camp goes. I hope that 99 vol doesn't bite us. Investing heavy in back-to-back guards (Rodgers last year) isn't ideal, but we wanted out of the bottom of the 2nd with less picks, and had to find someone to land on.

We were hoping for cornerback Gino Fewell to be available to us later on in passing Howe the second time, but that wasn't to be, either...I hope the trade made at 2.14 will end up being worth it.

Well, those were the three names I mulled over before making my 2.24 pick. I'm not sure if I should feel happy or sad about that.

My thought process was to convert the FB to TE. Hopefully there are no size restrictions, I joked about it but now it's legit...I want to convert Gredzinski into Grodkowski.

                            59. - Hatcher, Derek, CB, Maryland
                            63. - Bixler, Earnest, RB, Georgia
Wow... Just picked my first two players this year, I hope the trades worth it! I was expecting to pick another player with the first cause last year I picked Jerry Drake and still have Roger Mayes. But I thought he wouldn't be there for my next pick.

He's the fastest CB along with Gathier (4.40), with 60% developed, PH in the 60s, maybe with a pairing in M2M/End, without a really bad score in any combine, VU for my scouts, and is from Maryland (this is very important for me). I can't let it go.

With the second pick, was Bixler or Daniel Dorf, but Julio just picked him one pick before, so Bixler is. I'm not really sure with him, very short (5'7), Isaac Staat is in his lasts years, even when he did his best season last year, but maybe still has two more seasons in his legs. But we have to start to think in a replacement. I have him VU also, let see if it's true...

                              Boston's 2nd rounders

                              2.11 ILB Dustin Alexander:

Traded up for him because he was the last good LB, I thought and we really need one. Our ILBs are as old as Betty White, and Alexander should provide some much needed talent and youth. He shows good coverage skills, and his high play diagnosis will make him an excellent leader for the defensive front. His combines were all above average except for his 40 time, but we won't be asking him to rush the passer very often, so that's a non-issue. I'm hoping the good agility drill will make his Run D come up a bit.

                              2.16 LT Austin McConnell:

I'm not really happy with this pick, as he's not a sure thing. But we desperately need a quality LT and he was the best one in the class. His combines aren't good enough to match his scouted bars, but the good agility score gives me hope that his pass blocking skills will hold up. Maybe we'll get lucky and he'll turn out to be the player the scouts think he is, but I'm prepared for a bit of a bust here.

                              2.18 WR Howard Emerson:

I liked his skills overall, but his low route running scared me off for awhile. Then I noticed his excellent solecismic score, and I decided to take the plunge and hope the route running creeps up. He has the potential to be the good quality WR we have been missing in Boston.
