All I know is that this season looks bleak. My ground game is an absolute trainwreck. We somehow turned 6 key blocks into 29 total yards of rushing for an average (including scrambles) of 1.2 yards per carry.

I may be holding a fire sale by week 4.

Garion, this is why I rotate who starts every week in preseason. So everyone who is fighting for a job plays both against 1st and 2nd string players, and with 1st and 2nd string players. It's a better way to gauge each player's effectiveness. Often, I just go by bars anyway, but I do look at stats before making a decision.

What did Rob and I learn here? That our backups playing against backups and people who are about the be cut are really good? Or are our backups and backup backups on defense really bad? Is my pass rush better than his OL? Is my OL better than his pass rush?

All questions I can potentially answer with a long enough look at this roster and my own, possibly, maybe. I can't see his depth charts and he not mine. So while I can see who made plays on defense, I'll never know who was out there who didn't make plays.

While this is also true during the regular season at least there we have 80% assurance the best players are always at their positions. I know my pass rush is losing out to his All World Tackle. I know my RBs are getting killed by my OL. I know my QB is truly out of this world.

But I can't know that in game 4 of the preseason where on each play dice rolls determine that 50% of the players are in flux. 60%? 90%? Depends on the setting, obviously.

Preseason in mp FOF setting is mental masturbation in which we sit and imagine we're seeing things when in fact we can learn little to nothing. It's a time to shake off rust, gain experience on the field, and hope to hell your stars don't start quit smoking tobacco.

We spent a week on it. An entire week of our lives given over to absolute futility and I myself would love to see it cut down. You may not, and that's fine, but I consider this a dead week, a time to not worry if my sim gets in, a time to rest and relax while waiting for the true test to begin. The preseason is a crowd warmer, a distraction, a time to wet your appetite while you wait for the real stars to show up. The lights dim, the cameras roll, please hold your applause, the show is about to begin.

I'll see you on the field.
What ever it is that you do, be sure to GP a long passing game with this 12 mph wind.

4-0 in preseason does not bode well for us. I don't think I've ever made the playoffs after my team has gone 4-0 in preseason. I hope this year is the exception.

We also go into the season pretty healthy, the one exception being our #4 WR.

At QB, I'm leaning towards Prescott to be the starter right now. I'm going to give Prescott and Pleasant equal reps during the week, and the final decision will be made at gametime.

I am interested to see how you manage playing time for your QB's this year considering that both are former Waco players.

But even then you can't KNOW what you're going up against. Some people play 1st stringers in the early games and none in the late. Others vice versa. Most probably play them a mix of 1st and 2nd stringers.

Sure, you can get a basic idea in a vague sense, but there's next to no guarantee. Heck, even when I play my 1st stringers they are only in there 60% of the time. So, it's a mix of 1st and 2nd stringers.

It's just useless to me. As it is in the NFL.

Unlike the staff draft, Jim has mastered mimicking NFL preseason football.

I do however find the individual stages useful for eliminating seasonal rust and making trades/free agency moves. I just wish that preseason was only 4 weeks instead of having a HOF game week (or even making sure teams don't play in both week 1 & 2 of preseason as Utah did this year).
