That's probably a better way of saying what I was trying to say. There should be some randomness, and there should be surprise players on both ends of the spectrum, diamonds in the rough and busts. But, there needs to be more information on the players and more control of your scouting. The information doesn't have to be better info or more accurate info, just more. Where do the grades come from? Is that from how they played in college? Is that an average on how OSFL scouts see the player? How did the player do in college? Did they excel at a powerhouse school or impress in a small school? Did they start from day 1 in college or did they just play the last season?

This information isn't withheld from us, it simply doesn't exist. It makes the players seem like entries in a spreadsheet, which they are. I just want the game to hide that from us a little better. The more variables that are built into the players the more variable our approaches will be. That would allow the game to throw out the artificial randomness and allow a much more natural randomness to emerge. OOTP does a much better job with all of this, and it makes the scouting and drafting process much more fun. You have control over how your team scouts, how much money you put into scouting, what type of scout you hire. (a guy that favors potential vs. already developed skill as an example) It's a shame that FOF blows through all of that and relies solely on some vague bars set by a scout that you don't get to pick, combine scores, and a grade that seems to come out of nowhere. It's simply too shallow to be accurate, and accuracy is really what's needed to give a fulfilling experience in multi-player.

And by the way, not all of us figured out drafting in FOF2k7, just mainly you and Ben MalcPow to an absurd degree.
Which is the main reason I stopped playing the first go around. I'd much rather take a crap shoot for everyone rather than watching people trade ENTIRE drafts for a late 2nd round pick so they could get the last good player in the draft.

Yeah, and I think it has to begin with being truly random. Right now it's still a "mystery box", not a random generator, in the sense that I think outside of volatility (somewhat rare) there is a right answer to "Is this player good or crap?". We just don't know how to get to that answer.

Naturally, some people will get a better handle on this skill of diagnosing players correctly. Maybe they can't get that much better anymore, but there's a big difference between that and true dice rolls.

Before 39 combine accuracy, that almost never happened.
Most people would agree that this draft's #1 pick is not worthy of that pick and likely will disappoint.

Looks like the league scout still has buttface low but others showing him higher. Ceiling might be Alonzo Mandel.

I've got him at +2/+18, but that still only puts him at 12/40 by my scouts. Mandel seems to be an accurate comparison. Mandel's my OSFL equivalent of Jay Cutler. Good enough to keep his job, but not good enough to win anything. Just good enough to piss you off.

Hmm, pretty terrible draft for us, but that's what I expected when I got a chance to look at everyone after the draft. Our scouting sucks on offense. Can't get a good read on WRs, RBs or even something as simple as OL. Irritating.

But, our 1st round picks are legit and the small gamble on taking JC Flynn 2nd overall has paid off. At a future 91 he's the highest rated player I've ever had in mp FOF. Just a shame he's a DT as he's gonna cost me a lot later on. Time to move him to DE now that his ratings held. Maybe. We'll see.
