  • DATABASE: New Ideas Thread

This is the place to post requests of either new reports and information that I could pull from the database, or enhancements of current pages. Feel free to think creatively here.

One caution: just because it gets posted doesn't mean that I'll actually do it. Some things are subject to the availability (or more accurately, non-availability) of the data to do them. (For example, I can't add in whether an injured player is Out/Doubtful/Questionable/Probable, because that's not information that can be pulled directly from FOF.) I'll also always need to assess difficulty of implementing a request versus what it would add to the site/league. So in short, I guess what I'm saying is please don't get discouraged from giving feedback and coming up with new ideas if something you request either can't be done, or is given a relatively low priority. :)

    CURRENT TO-DO LIST
    • <s>Current FA List (Priority=Medium. Effort=Low</s>
    • <s>Add ability to select year and show what year in season leader pages (Priority=Medium. Effort=Medium)</s>
    • Add 2006 and 2007 transactions and injuries to database. (Priority=Very Low. Effort=High)
    • <s>Milestones (Priority = High, Effort = Very High)</s>
    • Add fewest fumbles per touch to rushing stats (Priority=Low, Effort=High)
    • <s>Add ability to see top 100 in career stats (Priority=High, Effort=Low)</s>
    • Add No-Spoiler Post To Auto-Poster (Priority = High, Effort=Medium)

SUGGESTED, BUT CAN'T BE DONE SOON (OR NEVER)
    • Add Out/Doubtful/Questionable/Probable injury status. (REASON: This status does not exist in the database. Getting it would require parsing of the injuries.html page of the Solecismic HTML--something I have no idea how to do right now. WORKAROUND: I have a link to the Solecismic Injury page right by the team injury report on the main team page.)
    • Add Gridiron Greta reports. (REASON: A good portion of the data needed for this is encrypted in-game, and therefore can't be extracted.)
    • Game Center (REASON: Requires parsing of Solecismic HTML.)

    1. I didn't see it, but is there a way we can see the current FA list?

    2. Can Gridiron Greta be extracted?

    2. This needs to be stuck.

Baltimore Bulldogs - BLB since '84
    - Porter Champs: '92, '93, '97, '98, '01, '03, '06, '08, '12
    - Playoffs: '92, '93, '97, '98, '99, '01, '03, '06, '08, '12, '13, '14, '15, '16

      1. Heh. Good idea. Not sure why I'd never thought of it. That's fairly easy to do. I'll try to knock that out this afternoon.

      2. Nope. And it's a safe bet that no one outside of Ann Arbor will ever have access to that. It's fairly obvious that Greta is reading from the real ratings, sometimes even hidden ones. ("Most Careful QBs" is at least partially pulled from the "avoid interception" rating, for example.)

Hey Ben what about past drafts? I mean just the drafts themselves. For example, if I wanted to see who the best player from the 2007 4th round was.

I'd probably agree with the DogBytes points assessment of FS Dwayne Kemp ;)

Gracias, mi amigo. Next up. On the season leaders' pages can we get a year heading to let us know what year we are looking at? I'm a little forgetful at times... been called the nutty professor just a little too often.

I've been meaning to do that. I'd like for all of those pages to have a dropdown to choose a year, and then I'd add a header with "{$year} Season Leaders" up top.

That's awesome, Ben. I see the columns are sortable too. You really need to ask Jim for a piece of the pie, sir.

Free Agent List created. It's linked from the main page. It defaults to the top 50 free agents at all positions, sorted by a weight system I created. It also allows choosing just one position group.

                  http://www.simgamingnetwork.com/osfl/ben/freeagents.php

This will be quite a bit more useful in the offseason than it is now.

OK... my idea is MILESTONES. Not sure where it would appear, but maybe something on the weekly output that says when someone reaches a MILESTONE.

                        10,000 rushing yards
                        25,000 passing yards
                        100 TDs
                        Etc...

Maybe also when someone breaks into the Top 5 or Top 10 in an All-Time catergory.

                        Like...

Billy Joe Jizmejians is not #5 in All-Time Passing Yards passing XXXX.

Just throwing ideas against the wall.

This is well beyond my abilities. Anything that requires parsing the SoleLogs isn't going to happen any time soon, if ever. Sorry.

Done. Also added ability to see past season leaders.

It might be easier to understand the scope of suggestions if y'all know what data is available to me. I have access to game-by-game stats, so anything that's game-by-game and above is doable. In short, it's theoretically possible to do pretty much anything involving game, season, and career stats. But anything that involves PBP information can't be done.
