The install "problems" aren't going away. A huge majority of them stem from people not reading all the instructions before doing it. Jim is like most of the developers I work with--not very good at writing installation instructions. (Believe it or not, his are better than most of the ones I get at work.) Follow the FAQ at FOFC, and things should be fine in the great majority of situations.

I think it would be a mistake to play another season on 6.2, fwiw.

I don't understand how it could be a mistake to play another season on the version that we've been playing on.

              1. We haven't been playing it long enough for the warts to truly have an effect. I suspect they'll ramp up this season quite a bit.
              2. Our seasons are *long*. If we lose any owners, it will be more difficult to recruit new ones to play 6.2.

                1. Is there any concern that we are jumping into 6.3 possibly too soon? SGN, spefically the BLB, has had issues with jumping into the "new" game too soon and dealing with bugs that had not been found at the time. I'm still hesitant every time we change to a new game.

                2. I disagree. I'm pretty sure we have quite a bit of interested owners. If they aren't willing to play 6.2 then someone else will.

The game has no new bugs. I could see there being a problem if the game had a known crash or other problem, but the updated version is as stable as 6.2. There is no reason not to switch, IMO.

None here. A bunch of leagues have already switched. I feel fairly confident that if we wait until this season is over, we'll be the very last one to switch. FOF has a much better track record with patches than OOTP. It's pretty much standard to switch at the most convenient time after one comes out. WOOF switched 2 days after the patch was released with no unexpected issues.

I hope you are right, but you can understand why some owners (Clay and myself included) are hesitant about a switch when 6.2 has worked very well.

Actually, I don't understand. The issues with 6.2 are well-documented, and 6.3 addresses many of them. And there's six years of history of leagues switching to the latest patch at the first convenient time without any hiccups. So to be perfectly honest, the hesitation sounds kinda tinfoil hat-ish on that front.

Tinfoil hat-ish? Really? Because I'm skeptical that a new game is going to be error free after it's been out what, two weeks?

But it's not a new game. It's a patch--more like a series of rifle shots than a shotgun blast. It's far easier to test a patch than a new game, particularly when you're addressing specific issues in the code. And like I said, we have six years of history and more than a dozen patches to go on.

So when do you suggest I mandate it to be part of the league?

I hear ya loud and clear Ben, and I do assume that you are right....doesn't mean I can't be skeptical.
