Agreed. How many players right now are even making $20 million a year? Just about all the best free agents in the BLB are looking for $20+ million. Should be an interesting first-year player draft with sandwich picks depending on what some of these FAs go for.Dallas Snappers

The only one I know of is A-Rod though there may be others.Originally posted by jmw1137 View PostAgreed. How many players right now are even making $20 million a year? I think the reason so many of our FAs will be able to get $20 million plus is that so many others are willing to sign very long-term contracts for chump change before they reach free agency. This leaves teams with a lot of extra money to spend on the few players that actually reach free agency.

Very good point. A lot of us are guilty of it, but if you look at what guys like Keppel, Gremades, and Campoveroe are making now...and they're 3 of the best players in the league.Originally posted by Riverman View PostThe only one I know of is A-Rod though there may be others.

Keppel makes 9.5 mil / year + bonuses, which is 10% of my entire budget (which is right around what ARod makes from the Yanks - ~10-15% of the Yanks budget). I find it hard to fathom that I will have to shell out 33% of my salary for one player. That's ridiculous and I'm not ever going that high. I'm already wincing that my first offers for a few players, which met or *slightly* exceeded their ridiculous demands, were rejected. I'll play the FA game, but I've made my final offers to several players and will look elsewhere if they decide not to sign with me.Originally posted by Sully View PostVery good point. I really think it has to do with the first two years worth of FA's that were signed WAY above what they were asking/worth, and now we're seeing the ramifications of the ridiculous contracts offered then.

Why can't I even see free agents in game? It shows me 58 players. They're all scrubs. In order to find Samarano I had to player search. Anyone else have this problem?WINDY CITY PLAYBOYS

BTW - I think the whole thing about FA's is something we need to just look at as the BLB. The BLB is not the MLB, so trying to draw parrallels to it is fruitless. There were only 20 teams in the league when the big contracts started coming. Soon there will be 24 and even more money out in the universe.
That being said, like any sport, we'll have to see how it goes from here on. I think we're going to start seeing more players get locked up for 7-8 year contracts in their mid-20's. I think we're going to see players miss seasons. I think we're going to see a lot of stuff like that. What I wouldn't want to see is us tweak the universe to fix the "problem". I think we let it work itself out.The Great One!
Too many rings to count.
