Johnston was the guy I wanted to target. Oh well, still got Flores, the guy I wanted.

SS Milledge was 3 on my list. Rare to see power SS these days. My scout loves his defense but I wasn't in love with his arm. Scout has his POT 4-5-7-5-4 ..ll maybe we take power hitters for granted in Pawtucket but he seems like a late career Geoff Scott.

I like Millege. Almost took him at #10. I woulda preferred to move down to the teens just so other teams could make the decision for me.
I think the reports on Millege are low. No way a guy mashes like that in college with a 4 potential contact. If he reaches the 7 power or even a legit 6, he will be a top 5 SS.

Guest repliedOriginally posted by Pat View PostIn other draft news, I really like the Porter selections of SS Tyler Johnston and CF Masao Nara. Johnston has shit intangibles but has speed, defense and a solid bat that should get him to be a regular in the BLB. Nara was one of my finalists for the pick at #10. He's above average on the base paths, in the outfield and should have an all-around good bat, besides striking out a lot. But what makes him intriguing is his defensive flexibility. He should be able to play every position at a decent level, besides catcher.

Linty's pick isn't horrible. It's just not good enough for 14th.

Oh well.
If it's any consolation...I will try to present a positive scouting report:
OSA has him 8-4-4. My scout has him 7-4-3. He has four plus pitches. He has no injury history. He hits 100MPH on the gun, tied for fastest in the draft. He lead the entire NCAA in strikeouts and K/9 in 2007. He is a "good teammate" with normal intangibles across the board. He only pitched one year but didn't suffer a single injury. He fields the mound and holds runners well. He is also above average at sacrifice bunt, good in the IL. In his final collegiate game, in the College World Series, he went 6.1 with 2 H, 2 ER and 10 K. His bullpen blew the game in the 9th.
My scout has him 73rd on his big board and says he should make the majors but "only if the timing is right." Probably more likely a late 2nd round pick, not 14th overall...but it could have been worse. He is probably a BLB longshot...but if he can improve his movement and control a little, he could be a nice pitcher. Might have a future as a RP with that stuff.
Might also have a future as a minor-league journeyman.

We need to roll back the picks to #14... I didn't make that pick and there's no way 4 hours already burned off the clock, did it?

The injury is a risk, but hoping he bounces back quickly.

I might have made a mistake.

13th pick so it felt right. My list didn't have him as a top 10. Usually prefer more sure things in that range.
