  • 2040 Off-season Discussion

    Well with plenty new or 2nd year managers in the league we headed in a new ERA of the OSFL, warm welcome to everyone and I hope you enjoy your experience in here. The veterans will do the best to make that to happen

    Sharks all-time rushing leader RB Clyde Grauman retired, "my contract expired and I didn´t want to get dress with any other uniform out there, now is time to Tito to use all the skills that I taught to him and try to kill my records here" He will be missed, drafted #10 Overall many years ago from Houston, Grauman had a terrific 4.55 Yds per tote and 4th all time in the OSFL in total rushing yards with over 15.000 and BEST in the OSFL in yards from Scrimmage with 20.684 among RBs and #2 including WRs (QBs excluded, they´re cheaters, they just put the ball out of their hands ASAP)

    Our D# coordinator also retired after brought the team to one championship and 4 conference tittles in the last 4 years, terrific by the way.

    Both of them will be very hard to replace, but hopefully Dilly will fit okay in the boots of Grauman and a great DC will be signed in the crappy staff draft that we have.

    * BLB Champions --> 2017, 2020.

    Ohio River Sharks (OSFL)
    * OSFL Bowl CHAMPION > 2036, 2047.

    The 2040 Waco offseason has many questions right now and the roster may see a lot of changeover.

    The Warharwks only have $19 million to spend on resigns and on free agents.
    This may be a difficult task with starers QB Luthor Lyon, RB Lenny Kooistra, RG Mitch Burns RDE Percy Hutchins all becoming unrestricted free agents. Waco also has seven other starters who are entering the reamaining year of their contracts. The players include Tobacco Bowl MVP Tyrell Edwards, 9 sack DE Gabe Shaver and 6 TD receiver TE Jason Shaw.

    With this little cap space and so many current and upcoming free agents, a trade may be in the Warhawks future.

      I was really hoping that Waco QB Luthor Lyon would get at least one of the season awards for QB's but then I saw that he was very high in the interception category with 17.

      I also had hope for our WR Trent Ramsey to win offensive rookie of the year after posting 75 receptions for 1300 yds and 13 TDs. Congrats to Phoenix RB Bryce Smithwick on winning the award.

        Boston got to extend everybody last year in the end -- even DE Lincoln Cleaver, whom we were originally planning to tag, but ended up with the funds and this was cheaper; and RB Vinny Stewart, who is now being overpaid but probably still has a useful season in him.

        Even WR Travis Christen, who thankfully returned for a 12th year. He's had some bad years as a receiver for us, but was one of our top options last season, and is a dynamo returner.

        Even OT Donovan Bell, who was a goat of a starter two years ago, but turned in a capable performance this year.

        We have 39 players signed, no franchise tag on the horizon, and *still* $111M of cap space. Ah, the joys of not paying a QB. That is to be short lived, though, as first round pick Axel Erickson is up for an extension. We held off, not knowing whether he would give us more than our capable backups. Last season answered that decisively.

        With a few seasons under my belt now in Boston, we're starting to transition from "pay nobody" to "look at all these current players worthy of extensions." I took time, but it's a nice feeling!

          Former Totems Jeremy Register, Everett Lindsay and Louie Heinlein all retired - along with long time Totem Fernando Domenici. Heinlein was a steal where we got him in the draft, but our WR group was so deep when he was on the team he was often WR4. He finally got some time as a starter with other teams later in his career.

          Domenici was another steal for us later in the draft, and he backed up Register for the first 6-7 years of his 14 year career with Dakota at center. I finally had the bright idea to start Domenici at guard and he played there for us for a long time. He finally got to start at his natural position this year but threw his back out. Those old guys!

            Although I did get signed up in time to have the opportunity to offer some extensions to Mermen in the final year of their deals I declined to do so for a few reasons...

            First up, I figure Garion knows the team better than I do and if people were worth resigning, he would have done that in season.

            Secondly, some of the money these guys wanted was insane for the roles/skill levels they have.

            And thirdly, I guess a few were getting up there in years or coming off injuries. Plus we don't have a full quota of draft picks this offseason so we need the cap wiggle to fill out the roster.

            Oh... And... Because some of them slipped me a few bucks not to re-sign them so they didn't have to be known as 'Mermen' anymore.

              Looking ahead to next season's schedule, looks like we are being "rewarded" for our recent success with Ohio, Boston, Brooklyn, Waco, and Camden.

              Awesome. Looks like we've arrived.

                  I thought I'd get a chance to avenge last year's playoff loss this year, but those damn Showboats blocked the way.

                  I guess I'll have to enjoy just the regular season win against you. ;)

                              We made near-wholesale changes in our coaching staff despite winning 10-11 games (including playoff wins) per season the last four seasons.

                              We retained the services of our head coach, Gerald Benson, who is a master disciplinarian, motivator and tactician. We plan on keeping him around as long as he wants to coach. However, most of his assistants and coordinators were not so lucky.

                              38 year old, T.J. Cheever is in his second year as an offensive coordinator in the OSFL with his first year being with us. We saw a lot of good things with T.J., but I'm not completely sold on his play calling in the red zone. He'll get another year to prove me wrong.

                              On the defensive side of the ball, we fired Frankie Han (who moved on to be an assistant with the Stingrays) as I just couldn't stand how teams seemed to always resurrect themselves late in games that should've been under wraps. Frankie was replaced by former Motor City head coach, Les Ervin who should be a better overall defensive coordinator for us.

                              We also fired 52 year old, Rich Terrell who I ironically, think would be a great head coach. However, he was just a godawful scout for us in the assistant role. We wish Rich the best in his search for a new gig next year. He was replaced by Malachi Eagleton, a 46 year old former assistant with Las Vegas. Eagleton is known as a damn good scout in the coaching world which should help immensely as we make personnel decisions going forward.

                              Finally, we also fired our strength coordinator, Stanley Daliere who was a master at keeping our guys on the field, but horrible in recovery for our guys. We went out and got a rookie trainer, 33 year old Darius Hudson. Hudson is considered a work-out guru even at his young age and should do as well as Stanley in conditioning but also be able to do a much better guy of keeping our guys refreshed.

                              All in all, I am happy with our recent coaching changes. BRING ON THE OFF-SEASON!!!
