Is anyone excited about the draft?

  • #2
Always! Hopefully we can pick better than we did last year. Can't afford to bust another 1st round pick...

I had such a horrible draft last year. I hope this year is better. Thankfully we traded away most of our picks so we have less chance to screw them up.

My draft last season was my worst of all time, including my 1.9 which I wasted on a garbage QB. I should have just taken my BPA CB D. Rinaldi.

BPA all the way for us this year. Should mean a good draft, but we have plenty of spots to fill. Gotta get beyond this 8-8 craphole we've been wallowing in.

Nobody wants that DT? Something wrong with him? Did no one go to his 21st Birthday Party?

Funny story time. OK, so it's not really funny. More like long, boring ultimately pointless.

                    But hey, humor me.

Back in 2031 Camden was a pretty terrible team. Years of apathy and general draft mismanagement (all by me) had drained our talent to the point where even all the good chemistry in the world combined with my patented run-on-third-down-bullshit offense could still only manage a paltry 6-10 record. It was the team's worst ever finish and as a result We were picking #10 overall in that year's draft.

After pissing away the several opportunities to trade up and take someone who would actually help my team I found myself on the clock and with the best player available a DT. Andy Marshall, Auburn.

Now Marshall was undoubtedly the best DT in the draft that year and sure to be one of the best in the league. He was also head and shoulders above any other players still on my board, but there was one serious problem. He was a defensive tackle. It was a position whose impact I ranked somewhere between guards and fullbacks.

Still Marshall was the best player available, and trades take too much effort, so I picked him.

He ended up being the only new starter on our team that year as we ignored free agency just as hard as we ignored the draft and the rest of my draft was pretty terrible. There were no changes made to our bullshit game plan. We even decided to keep all the heads from our "I can't decide which one of these guys sucks worse" many-headed quarterback monster from the season before (although Nate Reese eventually emerged as starter at QB after he killed and ate all of his rivals, or maybe I'm misremembering that part). So other than perhaps a bit of cannibalism, Andy Marshall was the only change we made. And yet somehow that 6-10 from the year before made it all the way to the championship game.

We lost to Utah (because Aston) but over the next nine seasons we made the playoffs seven more times including two more trips to the championship and one title. Then, last year, Andy Marshall suddenly retired and our team promptly fell back to 6-10. We once again found ourselves picking #10 overall in the draft.

So there I was looking through this year's draft class this year I saw that DT and thought to myself "What are the chances of it happening again?" Then I decided they were too damn high so I traded up rather than risk it.

I mean sure he looks like he'll be pretty good, but there's just one problem. He's a defensive tackle. And if there was one thing I learned after the saga of Andy Marshall, that is a position whose impact I now rank just slightly ahead of guards or fullbacks.

Really nice pick Rando, that RB is nuts, I was thinking trading all the way to select him...

Now I have to reconsider the players available and if it's worth it.

Really wish this class had a couple decent QB's. My scouts either show lousy bars one top 10 QB's listed or interviews came back VOR. I have traded for a guy but feel he will be a low % winning QB if he has to take game to air. Plus don't want to run my new RB into ground and make him end up with short career of 6-8 seasons. I'd like to get 9 or 10 out of him. So trying to decide one who to roll the dice on. Last season tool a guy VUR and he bombed big time be nice to see a VOR turn into a gem. I doubt it happens though.

With the #4 Overall pick Anchorage trade all the way up to select CB Carlton Jaffe from Arkansas, scouts liked the tape and his combine in Indianapolis was A+, glad to have a great player coming into our rubbish D#
