Nothing is official until a trade is posted and confirmed.

I think maybe some good rules of thumb for newer players, before they get a feel for the MP landscape in FOF:
-- If a player is a stud (let's say, 55-60+ for non-QBs, 45-50+ for QBs), regardless of age, simply do not trade him. For anything. Just enjoy him.
-- Do not part with a future 1st, or 2nd, or even 3rd round pick for anything, *especially* a current draft pick, *especially* if that pick belongs to your own team.
I don't think it would have been too crazy for that WR to go for 3 1sts and a 2nd. Even then, that could be, e.g, 1.27, 1.23, 1.31, 2.31 across three years. A vet might get two, three, or four "solid" players out of this -- but they'd get that already from their own picks, so what's the added value? At this price point it starts to hurt the team paying (which it should), but it's not clearly a huge bonanza for the team receiving, either.*
You'll somewhat break even -- at least not get taken for a ride! -- keeping your own picks and your own players. Eventually you'll get a handle on things, see what sorts of things happen, and what people say about it.
High stakes trading is a dangerous, dangerous game. I've made some awful ones, myself. I gave up a future 1 for an 80/80 DT to stay in the bowl hunt. He ended up retiring after just three seasons, during which time I had a lot of DL talent anyway. The 1st I lost ended up being 1.22; at 1.23, division rival Bomber takes a 60+ WR with 100 BPR who somehow slid all the way down but would never have made it past me. Arguably, the DT did keep me in the playoffs these years, but talk about a double whammy.
*(Typically, when I see a veteran score a stockpile like this, they go hunting for another aggressive trade rather than sit back and make the picks. I.e, they'll try to find someone to give them a top 5 draft pick and get a QB, or they'll find someone who gets wowed by sheer volume enough to part with a young 70/70 QB. Sort of a game of hot potato, IMO.)Float likeabutterflysting likeabee.

I'd actually go so far as to say that the top of the draft is easier with 39 because you can basically ignore combines and take the guys who have all the big bars. The ignoring combines bit is the part people seem to have some trouble with as old habits die hard.

I have a question for the vets. What is the Etiquette on private GM trades? I did read the rules but did not see any specifics so I assume this is just a mater of gamesmanship.
Again sorry for the noob mistake...

I remember my first season in the league, there were 3 guys trying to swindle the 'new guy'. I didn't bite fortunately.
I dont know what to say good or bad etiquette is. I've seen bad trades after the player was put on the trade block too. Or a good trade and then people who made bad offers complaining in the end because they didn't get the player, even claiming they didn't know said player was on the block.
If I see a guy on another guys roster that I like, veteran or newbie, why can't I make him an offer and keep it private. That's what happens in the real world.
Basically, it doesn't seem to matter what trades happen or how, you can't please everyone.Utah Bees
