It took me years to learn this lesson. Just ask Clay.

      • I was just joking, jwolf. Aside from the first paragraph in my post, the rest of it was sarcastic humor. Obviously, it was a poor attempt.

Personally, I think the best policy would be to take the highest Adj Board rating at any of the 3 positions. If they miss the next pick, take the highest Adj Board at one of the next 2 need positions. If they miss 3 picks, it's probably then safe to assume they are no longer participating and appoint a draft committee to handle the rest of the draft for them (like we are doing with St Paul).

Wow, I take a 3 hr flight and miss all this. I read most of the thread and recognize everyones points but I think we should leave it the way it is. Ive said this before and I'll say it again: The draft happens every 4 mos or so. The league only asks that you be somewhat available during that weekend and check in with us. If life comes up and you cant be around we just ask that you use your preference list.

If you dont care enough to do that than you shouldnt care if you get a player you didnt want. Its not my job as commish to scout what a absentee owners biggest need is or to step in when an owner fails to be responsible. Thats why I just go with the biggest need according to the game and pick the highest rated player.

If an owner misses multiple rounds than he will be autopicked for the rest of the draft (I did that last year for Brooklyn). In round 2, I picked their 2nd biggest need and in round 3, I picked their third biggest need. After that I just took the highest rated player available regardless of need. I see no reason to change that but I'm willing to listen.

          • The best part is if his biggest need was something like RB we would probably all be singing kumbayah and holding hands in the mid 3rd round by now.

No, I knew. I just wanted to make sure everyone knew how much I like it around here. Because I do.

                It's an addiction.

Anyway, I hope Liquid is OK because it really isn't like him to go AWOL. He's one of the most reliable guys we have here.

You are right about that. I just want to emphasize that the Preference List is there for a reason. If an absentee owner has someone listed in his preference list, I will pick that player for him. I only go to biggest need when there is no one on the list.

One other thing: I'm harder on the long term owners than I am on the new on es. For some of them this is their 4th draft. So we should all be aware of using the list or posting in this thread if you wont be able to check in for a while.

                  • Hey.. Can we just hold hands and sing kumbayah anyway? I love that kind of shit. :)

By the way.. If anyone needs some defense, I still have a few guys on the block, somewhere in the transactions forum..

Not asking for the world, just a small piece. :)

                      • I apologize for not being around to make my pick. It's been a crazy time with graduation and all the stuff that surrounds it and I forgot to load up the utility before heading out yesterday. Didn't expect to be gone for so long, so I apologize for slowing us down.

My scout for Dlineman is only A but G in young talent and I had him as VU also --- but I can never hit a double, much less a HOMERUN when selecting DLINE....

                            • I have a question for the FOF masters. I know I've heard that you're supposed to be able to find late round gems ala Tom Brady (I HATE using him as an example...). How do you find these guys? Combine numbers drop off after awhile, so do you just hope your scout says one guy is very underrated and that works out? Can a guy outperform his combine numbers?

                              • I'm not remotely considered an FOF master but I'm certain they can outperform their combines. Some put up #s that they never live up to and vice versa. This is just from my experience. High volitility is something you could look for after you find someone with a skill you like.
