Went with 2B Dusty Hyde out of Orleans in the Cape Cod League. He'll start out in AAA, likely to get a look in August/September to see if he can be a piece for the stretch run. Wants to be in the majors now and his bat is likely advanced enough he could platoon straight out of college if I really need him to.

Burkett was a guy my scout had high on his draft list but his ratings and report left a lot to be desired. I had three other OFs above him. Strange abilities. Hit just four doubles but 19 HRs this year.

Ron Miller is currently injured with a torn rotator cuff and won't pitch again until 2005 at the earliest. I've had success drafting injured pitchers. Throws 98 MPH. Has elite control. Very high leadership. Very high work ethic. Despite going 5-17 in college I think he could be a good one.
I'm curious how he recovers from the injury- I have a very strong front part of my rotation locked up with Mejia and Simpson for the next few years. I can afford to be patient with Miller. I had Lawn higher on my big board but am very pleased with Miller. If he wasn't injured, he would have been off of the board with the first five picks in my opinion. A little bit of a gamble for sure.

    Pick traded to Syracuse.

Really liked William George...and of course he goes one before my pick. Pick traded.

Open to trading down or out of the first.

But I did trade a future first for the pick, so value accordingly.

It's gonna end up being a bad decision. And I know bad decisions.

In the car for a minute so if anyone wants to move up, pm me. Won't be able to make the pick for a few anyways.

    Batavia selects SS Sullivan Smart.

Very raw but could be a leadoff man in a few years. He can run, he will be an amazing fielder, and his contact looks to be pretty high. He's also intelligent and has a great work ethic.
