  • Two rookies will debut with Washington to start 2038.

    1B/DH Blake Hartman
    Drafted - 1st round, 23rd overall in 2033
    #65 prospect in the BLB

As a first round pick in the draft, I've had high hopes for Hartman at the plate and now he gets his chance to take over for departed team captain, Joy-shan Guo. Hartman's had plenty of success in his career so far - he won the 2032 NCAA Outstanding Hitter award, finished 3rd in voting in 2035 for the A-level Outstanding Hitter, and then won the Outstanding Hitter Award in AA (2036) and AAA (2037). So, he's been the best hitter at pretty much every level he's played at so far in his career. In Spring Training, he hit .291 with a 1.009 OPS, hopefully proving to a quick study in the BLB. My scout really likes his ability to hit RHP (Hartman is a lefty), but he probably will have to be platooned. He's only average defensively and like most players at his position, he's not very fleet of foot, though my scout gives his Stealing a 75 rating and he's swiped a few bags in his career.

Hartman will play either 1B or DH nearly every day against RHP.

    Aden Grant
    Signed for $9.1M in 2031
    #97 prospect in the BLB

When I spent over nine million dollars to get Grant, I thought I was signing the next Ian James. It's probably not going to work out that way, but Grant still rates as solid catcher according to my scout and OSA, and he'll take over the starting job in Washington. "Liquidator" is nearly elite defensively and has above-average potential at the plate, though he still has some room to develop. He's a "true dirt dog, doing all of the little things to help his team" and that personality should help the chemistry out while he hopefully learns the ropes. He's been pretty good in the minors, but his prospect rating has fallen from #9 (2033) to the end of the top 100. He's probably not worth the money I paid to get him, but I think Grant will still be a good player.

    • 1B Dylan Ladd will debut for the Pilots this week. Never been a top prospect but the former UDFA has hit at every level.

          • RP Jimmy Shipley
            http://www.simgamingnetwork.com/blb/...ayer_5992.html

We need an extra lefty in the pen this week due to fatigue and 31-year-old Shipley will make his BLB debut this week. After winning the NCAA CWS in 2037, Shipley went undrafted. After a short stint on Batavia's DFA, he signed with the Pilots. Fast forward 11-years later, and Shipley will be a sidearmed lefty specialist for the Pilots this week. Ironically, my scout actually gave him a ratings hit on stuff this week (8/1) rescout but still has him 80-40-50 vs. lefties, same as OSA. At 6'6 230 he hits 98 MPH and will probably face a batter or two this week. His intangibles couldn't be much worse.

            • Anybody still doing these?

P Cowan Ruffo will make his BLB debut this week. The former Italian scouting discovery has battled injuries throughout his minor career but did finish 3rd in the 2036 (A) The Herbert Reliever of the Year Award voting and got a ring from both Double-A and Single-A in 2038 for his contributions. He's pitched mainly in relief to help with his fragility but my scout thinks he can start even his his 3rd pitch doesn't quite get there. We need a RHRP player who can come up/down based on match-ups and the role would have been held by Jeric Barradas, but he ran out of options and was shipped to SDR. He's got a lethal slider and I think will be effective in the role until he inevitably gets hurt.

              • Hello? Is this thing on?

P Travon Jones will be the debut this week. The 23-year-old has been complaining about being stuck in Triple-A and I've had enough of it. Last year he posted a 3.4 WAR in 22 starts and so far this year he has been even more dominant. A borderline top 100 prospect, Jones was originally drafted by Maine in the 2nd round of the 2033 draft. The 6'8 righty doesn't have a great pitch but he throws six of them with pinpoint accuracy. In Spring Training he threw 10 innings of 2.70 ERA and 0.80 WHIP.
