We did a pretty un-Utah thing this year and made most of our picks. At this juncture we're not sure if they make sense from a need standpoint, but they were the options available to us. Even if it isn't a need, you can't avoid it forever until it becomes a pretty desperate need.

In 2024 and 2026, Utah made no first round selections. Now in 2025 and 2027, we've doubled up with two each...so I guess it averages out.

The round 2s make it interesting. I think this is the first time we have made four Top 64 selections since 2020. Bobby Plantilla looks to make a fairly crowded corner position even more so, and DE Byron LaPorte will give us a lot of options in our quest to get younger on the D-line.

On to take six more shots in the dark, give or take, and cut them all later!

But you still traded out after me like I said!

Oh, yeah! Was that the Portland one? They wanted to secure one of the DE prospects...and ryan wanted to jump in if you selected one of them, and you did.

Moved out of the 2.4 outright, although for the second year running, we gave up a top-5 round 2 for more or less a future 2. I think I'm pretty happy with how the 2nd round went overall.

Keep an eye on Yuma's WR Courtney Hanson. Could be a very good one there.

Sad to see that punter go to someone else. If my work schedule wasn't so wacky this week I would've made a move to jump up and get him. I know it's a punter I'm talking about, but last season was the first time I didn't have a completely terrible one.

That's the highest I've ever taken a kicker in the draft.

Columbus takes at 2.32 a guy I was eyeing for the 7th round! Darn you.

1.22 - QB Leon Jennings (20/73) - We're looking at 28% developed so a drop is expected, as it always as his bars were higher than his combines justified. I'm hoping to limit it -5 in camp TOPS. Hoping. I'll take a high 50's QB if that's what he turns out to be. Is he our franchise QB? Hopefully. Will he start this season? Unlikely, but we'll see how camp turns out. Expect a lot of QB time.

2.12 - OLB Ted Rucci (28/58) - Crap. Can't move him anywhere else as a LB. He's stuck as a WLB I guess. Shoot. Oh well, I'm not going to complain, I'll just slot him in where I want him in the depth chart. I reached a tad here with him, but I'm really hurting at LB and could use any help at this point. I expect him to be decent or good, but not great. I'll be pleasantly surprised if he bumps, but I doubt it.

3.20 - SS Patrick Frederick (18/60) - Developmental backup. If he ends up with any return ability I'll be happy as that'll be a bonus. There's an ever so tiny possibility of me moving him to cornerback, but we'll see what his bars turn out to be.

3.24 - TE Luther Lepore (17/49) - Another reach for need/depth. Luther was never drafted to play as a proper tight end, he was drafted for one purpose: to catch balls. Also, good looking ST bar. Biggest knock against him is he's weak as crap, which scares me as his Courage may end up really, really close to zero which isn't so great for a TE. Hopefully his RR balances that out.

Sheldon comes out 15/39 by my scout... 40 future by some others. If he goes +4 or +5 at TC I will be pleased. Any less and I will be disappointed. More and I will do a happy dance.

I wasn't enthused about TE Mathis @ 1.15, but he comes in at 44/79. Hopefully not too precipitous a drop in TC. I love having a quality TE on the team, so this could be huge.

Guys!! What about taking big volatailty players with decent combines in the lasts rounds?? Is it a good strategy to found some steals or simply waste picks?? What do you think about!!??

Depends if you've got anybody else worth a look, like a punter or kicker who will get paid very well in late FA. You can usually release a 6th and 7th rounder without any cap hit so they're good for a few gambles

Volatility can work either way, so he could end up totally useless.
It's worth the pick but don't expect anything from the player

I think the same... Is a good reward / risk ratio in the late rounds... See what happens with that strategy
